Buenos Aires Celebrates 20th Anniversary Pride March (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/07/11 10:15 AM ET Updated: 11/08/11 07:27 AM ET

This Saturday the LGBT community in Buenos Aires celebrated its 20th Anniversary Pride March, which brought tens of thousands out on the streets of the capital.

Argentina, the first country in Latin America to pass a nationwide marriage equality law, is now debating a gender identity law that would allow trans men and women to choose the identity they wish to display on their national ID cards and passports.

All Out, an international campaigning organization for LGBT equality, was there to document the march.

View photos from the festivities taken by local photographer Hernan Reig in the slideshow below and you can check out more photos here.

The Argentina of today is a very progressive republic. President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is the best president Argentina has ever had. It took a woman to do it. Unfortunately, she is serving out her last term due to democratic term limits persuant to Argentina's Constitution. It's a shame that so many corrupt dictators of Argentina's dark past were allowed to remain in power for so much longer. Argentina would certainly have been Latin America's strongest power--or at least neck-in-neck with giant Brasil--had Argentina not had a long history of military coups and military dictators. Buenos Aires is the perfect destination for gay and lesbian newlyweds, and all other LGBT persons. I also highly recommend open-minded and progressive neighboring Uruguay with its beaches and Pampas. The south of Brasil as well for a visit--or even retirement. Foz do Iguaçú (Iguaçú Falls)--where the borders of Argentina, Brasil, and Paraguay meet on the Paraná River is stunningly beautiful: the perfect place to spend a night of your honeymoon and getaway at Brasil's Hotel das Cataratas.

Buenos Aires is a very beautiful city. It looks something like Paris. And the boys there are very very sexy.

If you dropped Fred Phelps into that, how long do you think that it would take him to drop dead of a heart attack?

The idea that anyone can legislate away sexual identity, or forces compliance of a gender, sexual preference, or relationship between consenting adults is laughable. (and dangerous)

Those who pretend to be something other than who and what they are lead a limited (closeted) existence which robs them of their potential, and cheats everyone they come into contact with out of knowing who they really are and what they are really capable of.

Life is short, and wasting the tiny sliver of time one has on this earth, posing as something you are not, just to satisfy ideological extremists, and religious dogma is unquestionably tossing away the greatest gift anyone has ever been given...life, and all of it's potential.
