Alex Androsuk Injury: Middle Schooler Breaks Collar Bone After Collision With Football Coach (VIDEO)

Middle Schooler Breaks Collar Bone After Collision With Football Coach

For a school whose athletic director claims safety is the "number 1 priority," this is some very questionable footage.

According to Local 4 News in Detroit, during a football practice at Roseville Middle School, one of the coaches decided he wasn't content with merely, you know, coaching. Rather, the full grown man decided to get in on the hitting. The result: A 13-year-old with a broken collar bone and an extremely upset father.

"It was me and two other kids were picked by the head coach. So, we had to go out there and try to tackle him," Alex Androsuk, the child who broke his collar bone, explained to MyFoxDetroit. "The coach has seen the video and said I was faking my injury."

In the video, it's clear that Androsuk makes an audible yell of pain after making contact with the coach.

Major Mickens, athletic director for Roseville, insisted that safety is the school's number 1 priority. But despite this, according to Local 4 News, Mickens has said he will not make a decision on whether to retain the coach until next year when it comes time to hire new coaches.

"[Those] coaches should've had no rights to put that helmet on and hit any kids, period," Bernard Androsuk, Alex's father, told My Fox Detroit. "I [could] see as he hit my son, the minute he made contact, I knew my son was hurt."

Steve DelVecchio of Larry Brown Sports' take of the issue was plain stated and on point. "In an era where coaches of amateur football programs feel the need to put bounties on opponents heads, stuff like this can't be happening," DelVecchio wrote. "Even if the coach didn't intend to harm the players, you have to be smarter than to put on a helmet and start trading hits with 13-year-old kids."
