Braxton Family Values: Tamar's Best Money Advice; Toni's Recovery From Bankruptcy

Tamar Braxton: SaveYourMoney.com

The Braxton clan is back on primetime this week. But before the sisters return for season two of "Braxton Family Values," baby girl, Tamar, opened up to Black Enterprise for a second time about her questionable marriage to producer Vincent Herbert (of Lady Gaga fame) and how determined she is to build her brand.

BlackEnterprise.com: When you think of developing and expanding your brand, what's your priority?

Braxton: The No. 1 priority is to complete my album and fulfill my dream. One of my other passions is talking to and empowering young women by teaching them about self-esteem, the importance of education and choosing a [career path] for their lives. I really enjoy doing things like that so right now speaking and empowering young women and helping them to be confident is something I've found I truly love and want to do more of in the future.

Braxton's brand-building efforts won't be hampered by the sibling rivalry that dominated season one, or by critics who say she married Herbert for money. "Where did that come from? Are you saying that because he's thick? How do you know I don't like teddy bears? I mean, really? Have a seat," Braxton told Black Enterprise when asked what the worst rumor is that she's heard about herself.

Earlier this year, Tamar shared the best advice she's ever received about money with the magazine, including getting your credit right, which she says black families don't teach their children enough.

What's some of the best money advice you've ever received and do you apply it to your everyday life?

Pay your taxes No1.com (laughs). It's the truth. I've never wanted that issue. I don't understand when people say, "I owe $100,000 in taxes." Huh, how do you do that? "Or I owe $8 million in back taxes." What? How that work?! (laughs). Pay your taxes and keep the IRS off your behind.

Tamar's other money mantra? "SaveYourMoney.com," she says. The aspiring singer's signature catch phrase could have done big sister Toni's finances some good.

The older Braxton filed for bankruptcy protection last fall citing millions of dollars in debt and financial problems exacerbated by a heart condition.

Braxton appears to be recouping nicely after her financial meltdown, however. "I'm very fortunate, my bankruptcy situation worked out really great for me," she says in a trailer for season two of the show. "I'm starting over and starting over can be a great thing."

Here's hoping these other celebs can get their financial house in order soon.
