Duggar Family Expecting 20th Child -- Counting Diapers, Birthday Candles, And More

Looks like TLC will have to change the title of their hit show "19 Kids And Counting" -- Michelle Duggar is pregnant with number twenty.

After Duggar, her husband Jim Bob and 18 of her children (her oldest was absent) announced this on the "Today" show we had several questions: Can a woman's body sustain 20 pregnancies? Does every child really get the attention they deserve?

But, perhaps more pressing: How much toilet paper does that family go through? And, how often do they have to sing 'Happy Birthday'? We ran the numbers.

I don't know what to make of it. Personally, I think it is appalling, but who am I to judge. It seems very cultish and God is not doing this for them. She has some good parenting skills however. I would be worried about her health. Jim Bob seems really controlling, cutting into Michelles' voice and disallowing her free speech. The kids obviously do not feel free to speak up.

I wouldn't want that many but people are acting like this is some big awful choice, its not like they go to fertility docs or anything they just don't use birth control of any kind. Neither do most Catholics so what. Yes if it were me that last little one born so early and sick would scare me but that's me.

I think it's a GREAT family! I would love to have a large family, for me that means around 10 give or take a couple.

There are many benefits to having large families, and if the family is a loving family - everyone enjoys it. I know several families with anywhere from 6-10 children who are loving families and LOVE having lots of siblings.

Why are people voicing negative opinions about this family producing more children? They are not on welfare, they do not depend on the government for handouts, they are not on WIC, they do not expect anything free. They have businesses to support their family, they grow a garden for food, they are very resourceful for clothing.
If you want to complain about families growing and expanding, complain about the families who have more children but cant support them and its up to you and I support with our tax dollars because they are on welfare, food stamps, WIC, medicade, get free breakfast and lunches at school, etc.

I agree whole heartedly!! I don't understand why people hate this family so much. Their kids all seem very well-rounded. Would I want 20 kids? Definitey not. But, this family does. So what?

My Mom had 8 brothers-5 sisters-came from era w/little no birth control.She was next to oldest.When she was 14-15 she moved to an Aunt's house.She couldn't stand the STRESS any more of raising siblings when she should've been a teenager.She had 8 brothers in a row,she loved her whole family as I did also,but couldn't take the stress the older ones, especially girls had.In those days it was common to "loan" your child to a relative who needed help.She found an Aunt to live with & help that was much less stress than her home w/a baby coming about each year.She lived to 86 & said w/our choice today she would never had put kids through what she went through.My grandparents were good Christians & did their best but Mom was born in 1921-there was little choice then.She said one of the best things about being a parent in next generation was ability to raise a family of size where each child got their share of MOM not just siblings.She said it wasn't possible for her Mom to give each child time&care they needed without older ones raising younger ones,not fair to anyone.So hearing it from someone who'd BEEN THERE-I BELIEVED HER.Wish some others would've heard HER side like some couples today!BTW my dear grandmother died in her 60's heart & body worn out!So us grandkids didn't get to have her long either!

I hate to tell you this, but its extremely stressful with that many kids (unless you are comatose) and stress causes disease. You are out of your minds and selfish.

This is what the country will look like if personhood amendments go through and birth control is banned. What do you say to a married couple who doesn't have access to any birth control? Have sex two times in your entire marriage?

I wrote the article about my Mom who had 8 brothers & 5 sisters & moved out early because of stress.Your comment reminded me of my OTHER Grandmother who had my Dad & his Brother 15 months apart then had NO other children.Granddad MUST have been locked out after that.Never heard she could not have more medically. No wonder Granddad was always GRUMPY! Never thought of the difference in two families till years later. Neither situation was good! Like your comment & fact it reminded me of difference is my two sets of grandparents. Thanks!

Years ago, the duggars stated that they we're letting God open and close her womb to how many children they have. These people are ignorant of the Bible, that's for sure. That's like someone standing on the edge of a cliff and saying, "I'm gonna jump and God is gonna save me!" No he ain't stupid, your going to go splat! That is tempting God.
