Camilla Skovgaard's Favorite Things: Just Asking

Camilla Skovgaard Loves Snoop Dogg, Rick Owens and Facebook

Occupation: Shoe Designer

From: Denmark

Currently Lives In: London, Dubai and a leg in Hong Kong. I have been an expat for 20+ years so I now speak Danish with as much accent as I speak English with an accent. In no-mans-land.

Favorite Place In The World: Either in clear seas amongst tropical fish – or in Nordic woods winter time, early morning with the cold mist hovering over the heath and deers peaking up at you with their majestic antlers. Everything stands still.

If you could have one super power what would it be? A hyper intuition.

What's the last song you downloaded? "Sweat" by Snoop Dogg vs. David Guetta

Last Purchase A proper chef’s knife – I feel like chopping everything at the moment, its shape and hold makes you want to chop fingers, too.

First designer purchase? I remember the feeling of it, the ‘Oooohh…’ but cannot for life of me remember what or who it was – something old school

What are your favorite shoes? Drawn to wedge boots and shoes – waiting for my new SS12 Indochine ones to be made up in my size… I walk full days into nights and feel free in them – it’s one continuous development

What item do you wear every day? Same usual kit – clothes by Rick Owens, bag by Bottega Veneta, watch by Cartier.

What's your rule to dress by? My whole wardrobe is Rick Owens so that’s easy… A fluid edged line, elegant with a whiff of barbaric starkness.

Favorite store: Most of my shopping is done online to save time and maintain privacy. Rick Owens stores don’t stock the same items in different cities so I try to pop around when in town.

If you had to wear clothes from one decade only, what would it be? The art deco period – even though I am not into vintage.

What trend do you hope dies? I don’t circulate around trends. It’s about style and character. I know what I like now so I don’t give a damn about anything else going on. Makes life so much more simple… I don’t do jeans – don’t own a single pair.

What is in your handbag? Cards, measuring tape, lip balm, pills, phones, sunglasses.

What was your first job/internship? As a child I used to make bit of extra pocket money helping out in my father’s office – I would sit and staple together hundreds of documents, pack into envelopes, fix the address labels and print out the stamps on a machine. I quite liked the systematic routine of it. You can sit there and daydream meanwhile… My first fulltime job as an adult, after finishing school, was for a French company in Dubai designing dresses for the Gulf Arab royalty.

What is on your nightstand? Lamp, silver box by Georg Jensen, books, alarm clock, note pad.

Currently reading? "The Seven Gothic Tales" by Karen Blixen – I last read the book 20 years ago when I lived in Paris with a literary Iranian woman in exile. An affirmative re-visit amongst all the fast literature out there now. Brings back the memories.

Kindle or book? Book.

Drink of choice? Vodka.

First screen name: It was Hotmail - full name.

Facebook or Twitter: Facebook. Not on Twitter.

Ideal Friday night: Good food, wine and conversation – a surprise dance is welcome too.
