I will guarantee that less than 1% of the OWS crowd had these degrees. These are good, employable degrees. Not some crap like "women's studies" or Classical Lit.

Less then 1% of the population in general has these degrees let alone OWS.

Where are these statistics from? I know plenty of qualified people looking for work as school counselors.

Don't see Accountancy, Law or Medicine on the list but there is demand in all these areas.

as an attorney, i have to say that the unemployment rate for recent-grads is pretty high right now.

It's "meteorology" not "meterology."

I fit into two of these categories (multiple degrees) and jobs aren't that plentiful. Maybe it's better for young kids but not us old geezers.

I'm a public administration major. I love it

Any Major that gets you into the "K" Street System. The D.C. Feedlot pays well and once your in your in for life...

$50/hr if you want to be a power linemen in my state. Start out at 50% and get a 10% raise every 6 months until you are a full journeyman. All overtime is double pay ($100/hr). Also large employer retirement contributions and excellent medical benefits.

Don't have to deal with all the debt and stress of school. All you need is a good head on your shoulders and be confident.

But if you would rather have a little desk to work at and have to dress nice everyday....than by all means sit through your over expensive ripoff classes.

Isn't that one of the most dangerous jobs out there?! There's a reason they are paid so well.

Yeah, my previous neighbor was electrocuted doing that.. he survived but is on permanent disability. Terrible scars and he lost a hand and a foot.

I have one of these degrees. I'm not unemployed. Am I working in my field? Absolutely not.

I know quite a few teachers who can not get hired due to budget cuts and I never see job ads for medical technicians only technologists and not even that much for those. Also nursing is up in the air right now too depending on your area. I could think of so many other jobs that could have been on this list besides the ones that were on it.
11:44 AM on 12/27/2011
Yeah... I'm thinking actual unemployment may be low, but I bet many are on temporary or part-time ... less pay, fewer benefits
03:44 PM on 11/28/2011
This is a very questionable list. What census did they take this from? The 1990 or 2000 census? Lately, I find most of the Wall Street Journal columns over the past three years lack veracity. That paper is not like the paper printed twenty years ago.

The unemployment rate for teacher education does not appear accurate. There are lots of teachers in New York City alone who do not have teaching positions.

It doesn't say they're employed in their field. It just says they're employed, so it could be part-time fast food for all we know. I also know several unemployed teachers as well as some of the other jobs listed.
10:42 PM on 11/28/2011
ah, great point. In that case, and I think youre spot on, that is extremely misleading. Just like how the 9.whatever % unemployment rate is misleading as it does not include discouraged workers.

No Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering on this list?

Well, if it they mean the environmental engineering I initially majored in, it's a subset of chemical engineering. No idea why they pictured trees.
