Wilson Ramos Kidnapped: Nationals Catcher Reportedly Taken In Venezuela

MLB Catcher Kidnapped In Venezuela

Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos was kidnapped at his home in Maracay, Venezuela, according to The Denver Post's bilingual website, VivaColorado.com.

Ramos was playing winter baseball for Tigres de Aragua BBC. According to Venezuela’s El Nacional, he was kidnapped by four gunmen and they have not contacted the catcher's family.

Evan Brunell of CBSSports.com points out that kidnapping is "significant problem" in Venezuela. Back in 2009, the 11-year-old son of Colorado Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba was kidnapped in Venezuela and rescued a day and a half later.

Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo, according to WTOP, said: "We will have something to say when there is something to say."

A spokesman for Major League Baseball, according to The Washington Times, said league officials were investigating the situation.

The 24-year-old hit .267 with 15 home runs in 2011.
