Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2011: Glitter, Lace, Wings... And Jay-Z!

NEW YORK -- Believe it or not, the Victoria's Secret fashion show belonged to the boys on Wednesday night.

It was Kanye West, Jay-Z and Maroon 5 who got the audience clapping and cheering at the annual lingerie extravaganza at the Lexington Avenue Armory, quite a feat considering they were sharing the stage with the some of the world's top models -- in barely-there get-ups, no less.

The show, which also featured a song by Nicki Minaj, who was decked out in a bright orange bustier, cosmic-print skirt and leggings, and a frothy pink wig, will be televised on CBS on Nov. 29.

The worlds of fashion and music always come together on this runway, which is more for entertainment, excitement and brand-building than a serious preview of styles. It really clicked this time, though, when Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine escorted his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna down the catwalk and then planted a kiss on her cheek.

She was wearing a push-up bra covered with a crystal-encrusted body overlay. Model Constance Jablonski strutted to "Moves Like Jagger" in an illusion beaded gown with a feather mermaid hemline, and Karlie Kloss wore a corset-style bodysuit covered in tropical colored beads.

A lot of the backstage buzz before the show was about West, who was originally scheduled for the 2007 show but pulled out after his mother's death. Doutzen Kroes and Chanel Iman were among the top Victoria's Secret models, dubbed VS Angels, who posed with him in their micro-mini pink satin robes and told him they expected his set to be a highlight of the night.

"I lost my super hero," he said when he eventually landed on the runway, "and now she's my super angel."

He started singing and that cued Alessandra Ambrosio to come out in a leather harness, push-up bra, thigh-high leather boots and a long, flowing cape splashed with the word "incredible" in cartoon-style letters trailing behind her. Lindsay Ellingson was on her heels in a leather bodysuit paired with silver wings and soon after came Erin Heatherton in a latex bodice and silver-dagger, weaponlike wings.

West then called out his "big bro" Jay-Z to come from backstage for the next song. Both rappers are known fans of sometimes flamboyant fashion, but West wore a brand new Versace for H&M jacket and black leather pants with a low-slung gold belt, and Jay-Z went the black hoodie with black jeans route.

The glitz instead came from Miranda Kerr's Fantasy Bra, studded with $2.5 million worth of diamonds. It was featured in a section of the show called "Angels Aquatic" that was a parade of mermaid goddesses in undergarments embellished with pearls and their wings crafted like shells.

The other fashion themes were ballet, which featured feathers, tutus, legwarmers attached to garters and lace-up stilettos; passion, interpreted in Spanish-style lace boleros and flamenco skirts; and Victoriana, with high tulle collars, parasols, cameo pins and big bustles attached to tiny panties. The finale, called Club Pink, was dedicated to the retailer's loungewear line with heart-covered hoodies, skirts decorated with pompoms and sequin T-shirts.

For Kroes, the show is a chance to play dress-up. It's all fun, she said. "You get your hair and makeup done, and you wear these beautiful, sexy things."

This isn't a fashion show, call it what it is, soft core porn for the masses. Feathers, stillettos and underwear isn't a fashion show folks no matter what you call it.

I watched the show and I don't understand why they all looked like they had some sort of space suit attached to their bodies. I get the magazines now and then and no one in there looks like a freak, just the products, bras, panties and such.

My wife and me watched the Victoria Secret Fashion Show but unfortunately we muted those scenes with the inappropriate promotion of Jay_Z and his lousy rap music. We have never watched a fashion show with rap as background music! Who ever made ade the exexecutive decion

Agreed. That is not music.

I remember their first couple of catalogs... the models were beautiful ..and curvy...They used to go out and get real people around the bay area(SF) to model for them. Also, the lingerie was made in Europe; France and Holland as I remember ...not this cheap stuff that is made in china or Indonesia.

My goodness. I need a cold shower. :)

Miranda Kerr looks spectacular! Not that they all don't look great. But wow. Miranda. Wow.

The 20th picture of Karlie Kloss is result of how much society has led models to think that not eating is key to success. That picture is disgusting and the people around her should be honest and let her know she needs help in my opinion. She' toooo daym skinny!!

I'm sure these are nice women, but these shows look more like a Pancake Social. Show some ladies with a little junk in the trunk wearing those outfits.

A lot of people on here don't seem to understand a fashion show. Alls they're doing is taking their product and trying to make it look as amazing as possible. If you took a pair of panties and a bra and put in on some average looking gal with small boobs and a dimply butt and just let her walk around, no one is going to want to buy it. It's not going to appeal to anyone. It's the same as showing a big mac as it really is; greasy 3 hour old burger put together by some disgruntled employee who's not getting paid enough. McDonalds isn't showing you that. They're showing you a perfect specimen of a burger, an award winner. "VS" is trying to make their product look different and new and edgy and great. And further more, a fashion show isn't really for you and me anyways. Its for the investors, stock holders and other millionaires. They do fashion shows so Frugi and chuck norris and whoever else will say on camera "I'm wearing vickys" because average looking, small boobed, dimply butt me will look at Chuck Norris and say "Well, if he like angles bra's, maybe I should give em a try!" (ps, I don't wear Vickies anyways. They don't make bras for chubby small boobied ladies such as myself. )

I see some great Halloween costumes, but fashion? I understand this is an over the top fantasy about the future of style, but c'mon, really? There should be at least a few wearable numbers for somewhere off the runway. Still though, incredible work.

I hate to say this, because I really like VS, but that stuff is just ugly.

I admit it, I am so grateful to Victoria's secret for their really awesome lingerie, love the stuff, and as for the models and the sparkly show, its about selling it, and getting people to watch...though most of what I viewed nobody really would wear at home, oh just let me slip into my pair of wings while I relax and read, or watch a movie, paint, whatever and hmm maybe that little silver head gear too, while I chop my greens, or jog bettet yet;), its partly entertainment too obviously...I love the artistic look of it all, love it!
