Chanell Morello, Lynn Hoffman, Former Teachers, Accuse School Of Firing Them For Reporting Sexual Abuse

Teachers Fired For Reporting Sexual Abuse?

Chanell Morello and Lynn Hoffman, two former teachers, are suing the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami alleging they were fired for reporting suspected sexual abuse between a seventh grade girl and the school principal, ABC News reported.

"They were told during the year that if they didn't keep quiet, they'd have a problem," Jeff Herman, a lawyer for the two teachers, told ABC News. Both teachers' contracts were not renewed at the end of the school year.

According to the complaint, the principal lifted the student's skirt "exposing her bare buttocks and genital area to a school employee and another student."

Norma Kramer, the principal in question, retired at the end of the 2010-11 school year, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The lawsuit, filed in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court, seeks more than $15,000 for each teacher.

According to NBC Miami, Hoffman said Kramer told her and Morello that she would be "taken out in handcuffs" for what she did.

"I never thought that this would happen in a million years," Morello told NBC. "I did what I am trained to do, what I am obligated to do to protect the kids, and I am getting fired for it."

Archdiocese spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta told them that since the Archdiocese hasn't received or seen the lawsuits, they cannot comment on them.
