Gabrielle Giffords TV Interview: Congresswoman Speaks With Clear Voice In First TV Interview Since Shooting (VIDEO)

11/10/11 11:00 PM ET   AP

PHOENIX -- Rep. Gabrielle Giffords spoke with a clear voice in her first TV interview since she was shot 10 months ago.

The 41-year-old congresswoman was seated with her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, as she talked with ABC's Diane Sawyer for an interview that will air Monday. A preview was broadcast Thursday on "World News."

Giffords was wearing a yellow top with gold buttons and dark eyeglasses. Her brown hair has grown out since it was shaved in May for surgery to repair her skull.

When Sawyer asked how she felt, Giffords said, "Pretty good." She also said her recovery was "difficult."

Giffords is recovering from a brain injury she suffered Jan. 8 when a gunman opened fire outside a Tucson, Ariz., supermarket. Six people were killed and 13 were wounded, including Giffords.

Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is a Great Human Being and a Great American, and so is her husband, Captain Marl Kelly! I am Very Happy to hear of her Miraculously Fast and ongoing recovery-and the fact that she can not only walk-but speak now Speaks Volumes about her Courage! The Human Spirit is a Great One and when you have the Will you will find the Way, as Gabrielle Giffords, to her credit, did-along with a lot of prayers I night add, in her speedy recovery!!

If only it wasn't hosted by Diane Sawyer. Would love to have watched it.

The story is about HER. Why is the selfish guy she's married to always referred as "Astronaut?" Why not just by his name? He shouldn't have taken that shuttle flight, only months after the attempt on her life. Her condition was still very guarded. If the shuttle blew up, he'd leave behind an invalid wife with two step daughters to care for. There was no reason for him to go, since he's already been on that flight two times before. It was a selfish act on his part.

She seems to be one very sweet and genuine person. I believe she is to be admired for her long standing contributions. It is good to know that some people can see where HE is coming from and that he is not fooling everyone. He is going to be strethching this 15 minutes for as long as it is possible and basking in every minute of it.

It was interesting to learn that his daughters didn't really care for her. Being a "step" mother, especially when she's young, is difficult. He had no trepidation over the prospect of her becoming their sole parent, and being disabled, when he went to seek his own glory. I still think it was wrong for him to go on that mission so early in her recovery process. If they didn't delay the flight, she wouldn't have made the first one. Some people will argue that he had her permission. But, anyone who had a heart and a conscience and seeing her in the state she was in wouldn't have gone through with it. In his mind, It's all about him and he's also cashing in on the book that is claimed that he co-authored. I'm waiting for him to announce that he's running to fill her seat in congress. Even with his involvement in the shuttle, prior to the event of the attempt on her life, people would still say, who?, at the mention of his name. Just another man living on the coat tails of a famous wife!

What a great, gutsy woman. She's going to make it back. Hard work and time, but she's the kind of person this country needs.

I hope that Rep. Giffords and her husband give the appropriate thanks and praise to Almighty God who is our Healer. I believe that she was and is a strong woman. However, I believe it is God Who makes her strong. Many, many people prayed for her recovery and I am thankful that she was spared and for all her healing.

I'm confused, you want God to heal her, yet don't say his name in schools, or in court or at Christmas...Not saying your the one to start this..but do you see the hypocrisy?

I do. Why would God save her and let the others, including that little girl, die? If a God gets the credit he also gets the blame.

Who's been filling in for her as representative since she's been re-habbing? I'm assuming there have been votes, etc. that have been held since she's been shot.

She has come back to cast at least one vote and her office has still been very active.

Congress currently does not allow votes by proxy (the Senate does only in committees, not on floor votes). If there were a vote in which every vote were critical or the issue was critically important, she would return for the vote, as she did for the debt ceiling issue back in August.

Her office and staff have continued to work on numerous issues in her absence and she has remained in contact with her staff, getting updates and giving direction as needed.

Will be watching for sure. So proud of you Ms. Gabby Giffords!! You such an inspiration to all of us, but especially to us who have suffered horrible injury or illness of the central nervous system. Your remarkable recovery gives us hope and reason to push forward!!

I'd like to hear more about the other injured people and those who lost their lives, including the little girl, and how their families are coping.

Perhaps there will be a special about them, and I wouldn't doubt that Giffords would say something about it.

Monday night will be watching. This is exceptional story. A person survives a point blank gun shot to the head/brain through all her hard difficult, frustarting road to recovery. A truly remarkable story with a courageous Husband by her side every step of the way. Go Gabby and Mark.
Have your Husbands watch as well.
