Minn. Boy, 7, Gage Driver, Battles Rare Brain Cancer And Wrestling Opponents (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/14/11 10:46 AM ET Updated: 11/14/11 11:37 AM ET

At 7 years old, Gage Driver has wrestled his way to winning 27 trophies and competing at the state level. But now, he faces the match of his life as he
battles a rare form of brain cancer that has just a 5 percent survival rate, Myfoxtwincities.com reports.

"As a mom and a nurse, you're supposed to be able to fix it," Gage's mom, Trina, told the news outlet. "And there's nothing I can do other than pray."

Doctors say that not enough is known about diffuse pontine glioma, which affects about 300 kids per year, and more research needs to be done in order to target the treatments better.

Which is why the Minnesota mom is appealing to the public to donate to brain cancer research.

"Even if our little boy can't be saved," Trina said, "hopefully, other parents don't have to go through this."

Want to help? Donate to the Gage Driver Fund. Checks can be sent to: Center National Bank 301 N. Ramsey Avenue Litchfield, MN 55355

Please encourage this family to investigate the Burzinski Clinic in Houston. The antineoplastin therapy has proven to be a tremendous success in treating cancers of all kinds and especially brain cancers. God bless.

has anyone every actually watched those st jude infomercials? they follow one child through his/ her "brave battle with cancer," through hideous painful treatments, through remissions, through recurrences and finally the kid always dies at the end and the voice over begs for more money so they can continue their ground breaking research. why aren't they using a kid who LIVED and was CURED to make their advertisements? my guess is because they don't have any.
this kid has a cancer with a 5% survival rate and that means for just 3 to 5 years, not a full lifespan. would you take your car to a mechanic who had a 5% success rate? would you call a plumber who FAILED at clearing pipes 95% of the time? NO!
and yet we continue to pour vest sums of money into treatments and variations on treatments that have never worked and will never work. every time someone thinks outside the box and approaches cancer from non slash, poison and burn view (no money for big medicine) they are ostracized, marginalized and even criminalized.
when conventional methods "work" only 5% of the time (las vegas has better odds) i'd start looking elsewhere- a medicine man in the amazonian rainforest, a native american healer. chance alone would give you better odds!

Are you comparing a kid to a car? go seek help

If you find something with better odds, please share it with the rest of humanity. Good luck with that one.

they should take him to the burzynski clinic in texas. he works with brain tumors in kids, especially. no amount of research money fed into the cancer industry is going to do anything

St. Judes is the most honorable and trusted foundation on earth. They put the donations to good use. No child is ever turned away because they can't pay.
Please everyone, If only a dollar send it in. No child should have to suffer from a sickness like cancer.
I have a niece that works for Vanderbilt childrens hospital in Nashville and I have carried my grandson there also and I can assure you some of the bravest people you will ever meet are these kids battling these diseases.
My heart and prayers go out to them and Gage. Bless them all and get well soon.

ST Jude Hospital or one of its partners is where this child needs to be. The families are never charged for anything their insurance does not pay. If there is no insurance the same goes. No charge.

All you have to do it check their success records. They are well known all over the world.

I hope Gage's parents insist that his doctors contact St Jude in Memphis.

My Uncle passed away from brain cancer 3 years ago. It still leaves a hole in my heart that can't be filled. To have to go through that with your child is unthinkable. Pray for him and his family.

I wish celebrities with all their money contribute to St Jude and the fight against cancer for all of us. In every family someone we know has or had cancer and it is a terrible disease. We need to find a cure for this deadly disease and we need money to do it. On the side, everyone in this country who is an American citizen should have healthcare. Its terrible to get cancer and worry that you don't have the insurance to pay for it and you are probably going to die. Please do not let the Republicans get in this year as they don't care about people just their pockets.

The side effects of the tumors, not the tumors themselves. If they coud be, why would anyone in CA or any other state with medical marijuana laws still have them? Good try though.

I had Hodgkins 4A in 1990 . The Doctor told me I had 6months to a year on currant chemo technology back then. A friend of mine who I just became friends with 2 months ago had non-hodgkins 4A in 2001. We both opted to find alternative methods. I found the Gerson Clinic in Mexico. They claimed to be able to cure my cancer. My mom drove me down from northern IL and I juiced over a dozen times a day for 3 months and my Hodgkins vanished. I'm cancer free to this day!
My friend Jeff did a similar diet at home. He is cancer free today as well. When I went back to my doctor to get tested. He was absolutely stunned. He figured I was dead cause I never responded to his calls. When I told him about the Gerson Clinic and the juicing, he snickered and said he didn't want to hear anymore.
I still juice every 3 months for a month. But I like to eat regular food as well. I Just went in for blood work last month. And at 49 I'm in perfect health. I know these to cancers are completely different, it's worth s shot.

i feel nothing but pain and empathy for this women, i couldnt imagine losing my son like that. the thing people dont understand is we can find one cure for diseases and a new one will pop up and take its place. we are humans beings and a biological entity and we will always be attacked by other entities, because thats nature, we cant stop that from happening and even if we could where would we put everyone. we have 7 billion people and we can hardly sustain this planet now, this is heart braking but its our reality. we all want to live longer and our childen and friends to, but we are killing ourselves anyway with the amount of people who do live on earth
