Rortybomb:

Is it useful to think of the Occupy movement more as a “left” movement or a “youth” movement? To answer that question, it’s worth looking into data on the young, particularly as it relates to unemployment.

Maybe in the future we won't have to worry about being hired, we'll already be slaves. :(

Republicans are opposing any progress on jobs bills. They seem to want the economy to do badly for political purposes. They are un American. You can not repay a student loan if you are unemployed. You can not pay a mortgage if you are unemployed. You can not feed your family if you are unemployed.

Now OWS needs to focus on what caused these problems and work for solutions.

There needs to be a financial transaction tax so that the people that created this mess can help pay for fixing it. High Frequency Trading (HFT) by computers and hedge funs account for over 70% of the daily stock market trades. This is not trading for the long term benefit. It is skimming money from the casino.

Reinstate Glass -Steagall act. Reinstate the up-tick rule.

The too big to fail banks need to be broken up and made not too big to fail.

Get active, organize, and VOTE for people that will get corporate money out of politics.

Republicans called OWS a MOB but they call the tea party patriots.

Right wing talkers on radio and faux noise seem to be trying to discredit OWS. Their agenda is different than the 99%. The youth unemployment rate will hurt a generation of Americans and the American economy. We need people in Congress that will focus on the middle class and jobs.

Make a difference. Vote for change.

This isn't really that surprising. Unemployment rates among all groups have risen. Those under 18 have traditionally been unemployed or employed part-time since they should be attending school full-time. Among high school graduates, about 40%, 18-22, go on to college so the unemployment rates for 16-22 year-olds should be much higher than the average. They absolutely should finish high school at the very least, if they cannot attend college, as they face a much higher unemployment rate if they do not graduate.

Passive young people is the downfall of any country...where is their outraged at what is happening to them ? When we were young'ish we did our part on the issues of the day eg. ending aparthied, and we received the same vitriol now aimed at OWS and even more since there was a racial edge to what we went through. Now the youth need to take up the call for their day for their own justice. If the youth in the Arab countries can do it, what is wrong with the youth in the US ?
