Jesus Cliff: Woman Says She Photographed Christ On Irish Rocks

Jesus Cliff

Posted: 11/14/11 06:39 PM ET

Jesus Christ is said to have helped many people who were close to the edge.

Now comes word that he might have gone over the edge -- and onto the side of a cliff in Ireland. Tourist Sandra Clifford's picture has got a lot of people excited.

Clifford, a pilot fron San Francisco, spotted the figure recently while visiting the famous Cliffs of Moher in County Clare with her friend, Fiona Fay.

The two saw what Clifford thought looked like the image of Jesus on the side of one of the cliffs and she immediately snapped a photo on her digital camera.

"I definitely felt a divine presence," Clifford told HuffPost Weird News. "To me, it was definitely a face, but I realize some people may interpret it differently."

Clifford feels her training as a pilot has honed her vision and also taught her to be skeptical about what she sees, which is why she asked the folks around her their opinions of the cliffside Christ.

Clifford proceeded to ask a group of German men if they could see the outline, according to IrishCentral.com, and after looking at it closely, she says they too nodded their heads in agreement, and began taking photos.

"I am glad I asked strangers about what they saw," she told HuffPost Weird News. "I hope they come forward with their pictures as well."

After her trip to the Christ cliff, she and Fay stopped at Gus O’Connor’s pub in nearby Doolin, where she showed her pictures to owner Therese O'Flaherty, who, according to TheDailyEdge.com, went to the same spot where Clifford made her sighting the next day and saw the same image.

Flaherty subsequently told IrishCentral.com that Clifford didn't seem like the type of person to make up a story and added, "They didn’t come in to show it to us and they weren’t making a big deal about it.”

However, she is curious that the Jesus image hasn't been seen before since she usually sees at least five tour buses going to that same viewpoint and none of them have reported a similar sighting.

Clifford is amazed as well.

"I found this image amazing. This entire day was incredible," she said. "The only way I can describe how I felt when I saw the image is very calm. It was absolutely beautiful and quiet.

Clifford wants to make sure that no one can make claims that the photos have been retouched, so she is removing the disc with the photos from her digital camera so they can be saved as they are forever.

She has refused all attempts to touch up the photograph back in the United States, insisting she wants to maintain its originality.

Well, if she went to O'Connor's in Doolin after that, you know she wasn't playing with a full deck. One of the worst pubs in Clare... great if you like busloads of tourists. Should have gone up the road to McGanns.

If I have my focus point behind my monitor I can see a face. But it looks more like Vincent Price to me.

I can't believe I'm even getting involved with this. Must get a life... at least for this part of today. Anyway,... here goes. Make the 'mouth' a pair of eyes. See the nose right below the eyes and below the nose a frowning mouth? See the longish ear to the left of this (dog?) or (Baboon?) face? Hey, it appears to be attached to a female body (Yep... there they are...small, but with,... hey are those nipples?!?!) And..there's a slender arm running along the body. Wait! This must be... MOTHER NATURE! Oh right, I'm a secular humanist who worships at the feet of Nature. I guess that's why I see what I see. Can't wait to hear about what Geologists see! Minds are strange thing to waist,... so I think I'll go read a good book. Not THE 'Good Book'. But a book none-the-less ;-)>

First off, We don't know what Jesus looked like. There are no pictures of him, no paintings of him , from when He walked the earth. What we see today are human renderings , certainly not actual ones of Him. To say this woman Saw Him in the rocks is on the absurd side.

I stood back about 6 feet from my screen and no doubt an image of a man (woman?) appears on the face of that cliff. Whether or not the image is Christ Jesus is a matter of interpretation. If the locals haven't named that rock formation, well Clifford can cristian it "The Face of Jesus" or whatever she wants, why not? At least she didn't name it "Crazy Boat Captain from The Simpsons".

Faith is actually a very useful and beautiful thing. It protects people from frightening awareness of their nature. It's unfortunate that often they defend their perspective by attacking others. It's very devastating to see your entire belief system about the nature of the world dissolve.

Right. Its much more "useful and beautiful" to live in a state of constant delusion and so "devastating" to have your entire belief system shattered by reality.

I suspect it can't be seen from a tour bus. It's all about perspective. It's a nice photo, and if she wants to see Jesus in it, I'm fine with that. I once saw some of Klee's, Kandinsky's and a bunch of other people's stuff from the Guggenhime in the loop rug in my mom's bathroom. That however was with the assistance of about 400 micrograms, back in the sugar cube days. I was about to launch myself out the bathroom door to proclaim my profound discovery... but as I reached for the doorknob I felt silly about the idea of lurching into the living room to announce that everything is beautiful if you lo0ok at it the right way.

It looks like anything you want it to look like!...If you see " Love" and "Understanding" Then You will
see that. If you see "Demons" or other unimportant matter, Then you will see that! I see a lot of intelligent minds not seeing " The Truth!...

oh. So THAT'S where Jesus and his divine presence has been hanging out. A rock cliff. In Ireland. Uncountable numbers of downtrodden humans have been wondering for several thousand years.

Yeah, looks like erosion is taking its toll. He better return soon or pieces of him might end up getting another baptism in the river.

Instead of seeing Jesus on the side of a cliff in Ireland, I'd much rather see him walk the halls of any children's hospital. Then I might believe.

It all strikes of desperation to me. I actually feel kind of sorry for the people who put themselves through this kind of exercise but another part of me just wants to whack them upside the head with bataka bat and tell them to snap out of it. But then, maybe there is another way to look at it...Jesus and Mary may both have a really wicked sense of humor and they are just yanking everybody's chains. Who knows? It could happen ;-)

Naw, it's the face of a homo erectus dude who lived 3.7 million years ago in Africa. I forget his name.

Looks like rocks to me.

I love it when people see the face of Jesus in potato salad or whatever, since nobody living now has any idea what the historical Jesus looked like.

It's like someone saying "I saw the face of a guy who worked on the pyramids 3,000 years ago on a faded "Reverse your Vascetomy" billboard on I-65 just south of Indianapolis."
