'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 Semi-Finals: Maks Says 'F*** Carrie Ann'

Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Semifinals

First Posted: 11/15/11 01:35 AM ET Updated: 11/15/11 08:44 AM ET

When it comes to "Dancing With the Stars," Maks just can't catch a break. The usually outspoken pro called out the judges for their harsh critiques of partner Hope Solo a few weeks ago, suggesting Len Goodman retire, and after a few weeks of quietly biting his tongue, he seems to be at it again. This time, it's judge Carrie Ann Inaba that's got Maks riled up.

Things got pretty awkward during the judges' critiques of Hope and Maks' clumsy Argentine tango. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, but one a night when the judges seemed to be praising the semi-finalists, they had nothing but criticism for Hope and Maks. When Carrie Ann started to criticize their sloppy lifts, she called out Maks for smiling.

"That's fine Maks, you can go ahead and keep smiling," she said. Maks looked visibly stunned -- but he wasn't the only one. Hope looked pretty stunned too. It's still not clear what she meant. Was he smiling inappropriately?

Well, this didn't exactly go over well with Hope, who after weeks of tension, exploded. "Maks was smiling because we should be smiling," the soccer star told Brooke Burke. "So Carrie Ann, thank you, Maks was smiling. This is my partner. Finally, we're happy!" Maks tried to stop his partner from making his previous mistake, but the damage was already done.

Unfortunately, for Hope, Carrie Ann wasn't smiling when she gave the pair an 8.

Backstage, Maks opened up about Carrie Ann's comment. "F--- Carrie Ann, next question," Maks jokingly told reporters, including The Hollywood Reporter.

"I think Carrie Ann has an issue," he said. "I don't know what it is but I would love to know so we can address it. As of now, I have no clue what the hell she was talking about."

There was even more drama on the dance floor after J.R. Martinez twisted his ankle in rehearsals, which severely affected his footwork this week. Last week's golden boy, fell from perfection this week with a so-so pasodoble.

"It was more zero than Zoro," said Len. Ouch. Looks like J.R.'s going to have rely on his fans this week to help him reach the finals, especially after coming in third in the cha cha relay.

Meanwhile, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough returned to the top of the leaderboard with three incredible performances, proving that they're certainly the ones to beat in next week's finals. Ricki returned to the top with her furiously fast samba. It even earned the former talk show host her first 10 -- from Len! She then earned her second 10 from Len for her Argentine tango.

But it was Rob Kardashian who was the real champion of the night, surpassing J.R. and earning first place in the cha cha relay.
Rob and pro partner Cheryl Burke brought the Rio Carnival to the ballroom this week, and although the float was terribly tacky, Rob proved that he's a serious contender for the Mirror Ball. His samba was fun and flirty, but most of all, his footwork was on point. Rob scored his highest score of the competition with his booty-shaking samba, earning his first 10 of the season from Carrie Ann.

Tune into the 'Dancing With the Stars' results show Tues., Nov. 15 at 9PM ET on ABC. Watch the stars' cha cha relay below. Do you think Rob deserved the top score?

I don't know much about dancing on a technical level, but after years of watching some of the finest dancers on the planet on stage and in movies, as well as the exceptional work of the contestants on the DWTS program, it is clear that critiques given by the DWTS judges are often a lot of hooey. Whether it's personal, political, or just plain obtuseness, it's still a lot of who-shot-John. (Personally, I have a suspicion that the occasional warped reviews from the judges stem from personal frustrations in their lives, e.g., the desire to feel instrumental.)

100% in agreement with Maks here. He is the best that show has and the producers know it. Carrie Ann is a snotty and vindictive B who should be put out to pasture. See you next season, Maks - and way to go showing up with Kirsty. I didn't even watch the finale because Maks and Hope were gone and had been treated so badly by the judges - 7s and 8s - please; but I will have to go back and catch them in the audience. The "F*** Carrie Ann, next question"? Way to go Maks.

I agree. Without question, judges need to be impartial if a competition is to be fair. Carrie Ann comes with A LOT of emotional baggage, and her vindictiveness ruins the entire show. It's amazing and unfortunate that she has not been fired from the program. (Len Goodman can be a veritable pinhead, as well.)

Maks is our favorite ... i don't watch it because stupid Kardashians are even in this show... Boycott the Kardashian on face book http://www.facebook.com/BoycottRealityTV?sk=wall&filter=1

I think Maks needs to exit permanently and not come back next season. He had issuesin past a season if I remember correctly. I feel Hope needs to show better sportsmanship especially when competing in the US Olympics. Don't disgrace our country as well.

I have the same response to you as Maks had about Carrie Ann.

Maks makes that show.. At least he has a personality, and isnt' afraid to speak out. Don't see him getting replaced any time soon..Maybe its time to replace Carrie Ann.. She's a tad snotty at times..

I'm behind Maks 100%. A few weeks ago when he talked back to Len after Len's harsh criticism, I did cringe a little because I was afraid that would put a bullseye on Maks and Hope. And it did. You know, Hope is an athlete and no matter how she tries, some of her lines and moves aren't going to be quite as feminine as others, but she is putting in the effort. Were all her dances superb, no, but she definitely showed GREAT improvement from week to week. And the judges never/almost never even acknowledged that. And, nothing against Hope, but look at the partners Maks usually gets. You never think at the end of the first episode of the new season that they will be in the finals, but he usually gets them pretty close to it. Maks truely is a gifted dancer and the judges seem to pick on him. And as for Carrie Ann - She called out Maks for SMILING?! I'm sorry, I didn't see that new rule where it states that the professionals aren't allowed to smile while being critiqued. She definitely has her favorites and I think most of us are just sick of it. I hope Maks returns next season because he is such a great dancer and Carrie Ann better start judging the dance and not the person because the FANS OF THE SHOW DON'T WATCH IT FOR THE JUDGES, WE WATCH IT FOR THE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS AND THE CELEBRITIES!!!

I thought this was dancing with the STARS. CHAZ BONO was never a star...and neither was the Kardasian boy... I could name several others, but this is getting ridiculous! Get REAL stars on there PLease, or your show will tank in the gutter soon.

I stopped watching 2 years ago. I always looked forward to watching on Mondays. Had all the phones ready to vote.. But when they stooped so low as to put that slutty blonde Kendra on. That just did it for me. Have no interest in watching at all..

Get real about Max. He's the draw. He's the only one who gets up there and shows he's the man. Hough and Balas are also great dancers, but they are not as attractive, especially to women over 25, as Max.

And he always gets the big women and usually transforms them into good or great dancers. Tell me another male on the show who can handle those women. I sure wish Tony D. would get a break partner-wise.

I'm with you on that one crcarr!!

I understand why the ratings for this show have gone down so much this year, I think almost everyone is tired of the same old thing. Carrie Ann has obvious favorites every year and no matter how they dance she gushes all over about them. I think Bruno has been the least insulting this year which is a first for him. I think the show has run it's course and I'm just waiting for So You Think You Can Dance to start.

Remember that Bruno kept comparing Chaz Bono to animals, etc.. Bruno was not kind. Think he is only keeping a low profile right now. It won't be long before he becomes very insulting. Criticize the dancing, Bruno, not the person.
06:10 PM on 11/17/2011
Hope and Maks really need to get over themselves.

Hope especially doesn't take kindly to constructive criticism, which is intended to make one better at what one does, but Hope takes it personally and as a result has learned nothing and deservedly got sent home last week. I for one will not miss her nor her equally smarmy partner Maks.
05:40 PM on 11/17/2011
I don't know what's happening with Carrie Ann...she is quite the B---H! Maks wasn't smiling or smirking...Surprise surprise. Maks & Hope bit the bullet this week. Hope was absolutely right..they wanted her off from the gitgo, but Maks's fans kept voting...imagine that! The judging is certainly not fair...Bruno is downright mean (calling Chase a penguin), Len calling Kirsty fat, Carrie Ann flirting with her favorites (Rob Kardashian is certainly not the first). I have always suspected the voting when there are amazing dancers who don't win against the strictly mediocre ones.....Emmitt Smith and Mario Lopez as one example, then Giles Marini, etc, etc!! I mean, I love Donnie Osmand but the best dancer??...I don't think so! Let's mix things up a bit and try some new judges..starting with "Fly Girl" Carrie Ann Anaba.
04:33 PM on 11/17/2011
No matter who Maks' partner...They are not going to win. Cuz Maks is very arrogant and dances like a girl!
11:06 PM on 11/18/2011
Sorry, of all the dancers, he's the Man..

It is a fixed show. Anyone that saw Emmit Smith get better scores from the judges and less criticism than Mario Lopez who clearly danced better knows this. Smith won not because he wa better, but because the ratings for him winning were better.

Come on Maks....you know what Carrie Ann's problem is. You get this sarcastic smirk on your face every single time a judge says anything negative about your partner's dancing and on top of that, you are completely and embarrassingly disrespectful. Grow up man. Hope flew under the radar for weeks. She should have been gone week 3. Hope has a huge chip on her shoulder and it has been evident every single week from week 1. She is an athlete not a dancer and you know this. She was clumsey, ungraceful and always out of sync with you on the dance floor. She simply couldn't keep up. You are an excellent dancer but you negate this talent you have with your imaturity.
03:28 PM on 11/17/2011
Well said!

ditto!!!
05:58 PM on 11/17/2011
Exactly what I was going to say........Well put....

Carrie Ann, a sorry judge, loves to flaunt favoritism and is not worthy of even being seen on TV. Plus it's time for all the judges to go and hey take the show with you. It's all a PR Media stage with fake voter ballots.
06:08 PM on 11/17/2011
AMEN tothat....

Last season she LOVED that FAT PIG, who should have been voted off by week 3!
06:26 PM on 11/17/2011
Agreed. Chaz also should have been gone a long time before he was on this season. She CRIED every time he preformed and that was pathetic and showed blatant favoritism. I don't care how inspirational the story is, if you are a horrible dancer than you should be voted off.

Agree! The manner in which she falls all over Rob and gushes, one would think she has an investment in the Kardashian family. She clearly dislikes Maks, always has, year after year. She was out of line with her 'smiling' comment, as he was not smiling at the time. Look at the tapel
11:09 PM on 11/18/2011
She's a jerk and really should be replaced along with Len..
