Herman Cain's Campaign Manager Mark Block Requested Train Wreck Interview

Herman Cain Journal Sentinel Interview

First Posted: 11/15/11 03:11 PM ET Updated: 11/15/11 03:36 PM ET

WASHINGTON -- The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, to whom Herman Cain gave a highly damaging interview on Monday, never requested to speak with the presidential candidate. Rather, the sitdown with the paper's editorial board was requested by Cain's own campaign manager, Mark Block.

According to Martin Kaiser, editor-in-chief of the Journal Sentinel, Block contacted the paper's Washington D.C. bureau chief Craig Gilbert on Saturday, explaining that Cain was heading to Wisconsin for some fundraisers and wanted a meeting.

"He reached out to us and asked if Mr. Cain could come in and meet in with our ed board on Monday morning," Kaiser told The Huffington Post. "We confirmed everything on Sunday."

That Block would request such a meeting isn't entirely surprising -- he is a longtime Wisconsin political operative with deep ties to the state and its reporters.

And yet, from a tactical standpoint, the decision made little political sense. Wisconsin does not play a role in the early stages of the Republican presidential primary process, and editorial board meetings are notoriously tricky for political candidates to navigate. If a candidate is going to meet with one, the logic goes, it's best to do it in a key state, having negotiated in advance what can be asked and published.

According to Kaiser, however, the Cain campaign made no such requests before sitting down, save that the interview be done with relative speed. The topics of discussion were at the editors' discretion, and the decision to film the session was left up to the paper as well.

"There was no questioning of it," Kaiser said, "no debate over whether to do [the interview]."

In the aftermath of Cain's meandering response to a question about how his Libya policy would have differed from President Obama's, along with his confusing and somewhat contradictory statements about collective bargaining rights, the campaign staff's work has come under increased scrutiny. According to Kaiser, Block was present at the editorial meeting, as was J.D. Gordon, Cain's top spokesman. Only once during the interview did they notably interject: When Cain was pressed about whether his campaign received illegal contributions from Prosperity USA, the conservative group Block headed, either Block or Gordon urged the editors to change the subject.

"I'm running a presidential campaign. I'm not commenting on this any more. Please. You're wasting your time with all due respect. Can we move on?" Cain complained at one point.

After the 35-minute interview ended, the three travelled to a fundraiser before heading to the Green Bay Packers game, where Cain continued to campaign. The Journal Sentinel had a reporter trailing the candidate throughout the day. In the immediate aftermath, he saw no indication that the campaign thought Cain had stumbled during the interview at all.

"I don't think they had any idea on the bus what had happened," Kaiser said.

As someone already correctly stated, Cain is a fake candidate and so are all running for GOP nomination. They all lack substance and integrity.

put together a little song type thing for Heman Cain lol...................................................................................................................................................
Herman Cain is his name and he thought he could play in the big game... When all the questions came..he brought to himself a bunch of shame... But the Republicans came and said? Herman Cain could you please stay in the game ... Then they flooded him with money and told him,, hey your Herman Cain... Then some women came forward to blame Herman Cain.....Then Herman Cain stood up and said I'm Herman Cain and I don't play those type of games...But what Herman Cain forgot is some of them already been paid!!! Shame on Herman Cain for having a half of a brain!! Well I know its hard to watch... But the rest aren't much better then the Herman Cain..So we have to stand and watch and suffer in this pain with Herman Cain!!..When 2012 rolls around, They will have to pick the best out of these clowns... And as i cringed on my very thoughts?? Is the day they elect Herman Cain? But in the end as the smoke clears from the bad dream of what i thought was clear...There is no Herman Cain for the Republicans to cheer... Just the left over smoke from his campaign managers on the air joke.. In the end Obama is in again.. So happy Jan 20th 2013 you dumb ditto head nit wits!! lol..

"The jury is still out on this sex scandal."

Really, When did the court proceedings start? Opening arguments?

Due to the evidence given to the court of public opinion I cast my vote as guilty for Herman Cain.

"But one thing you have to give him credit for He created a productive business with oppertunities for employment."

Thanks for the laugh!
Yeah, as in "You do want a job, right?" Cain says as he withdraws his hand from Bialek's skirt.

"Herman Cain's Campaign Manager Requested Interview That Went Awry"

He must also have the one to set up this interview for our glorious president:

Obama told reporters that unless European leaders take steps to stand behind the euro “we’re going to continue to see the kinds of turmoil that we saw in the markets today — or was it yesterday? I’m trying to figure out what time zone I’m in here.”

I suspect that Herman KNEW what time zone he was in! And that Hawaii is NOT in Asia! And that we DON'T have 57 states! And the other party is the OPPOSITION, not the ENEMY!

Because of the media liberal bias.

Or something like that.

This is why I refuse to cancel AOL/Huffington Post services. Someone needs to stay on this place to offset the incredibly partisan reporting and comments that make no pretense of journalistic or personal responsibility and focus only on shaping their readers opinions with attack dog tactics pointed at anything Republican, Conservative without regard to facts, truth, or common sense.

After gathering his thoughts, Herman Cain said that he did not have access to intelligence reports and although at the time he felt we should have more information about the make up of Libyan rebels before taking action he might well have agreed with the President had he had that information. Beyod that, his entire interview was a pretty positive example of the man's common sense and broad background.

Meanwhile, HP has given very little coverage to President Obama running around the country at our expense to claim that Americans have grown lazy and ineffective while the rest of the world is just hunkey-dorey ... just as he has criticized and apologized for us on foriegn trips sinc the day he took office ... SHADES OF JIMMY CARTER and the "Malaise" of America's people.

Those who are searching for the truth should read the crap on these pages with care ... they have one objective and that is to advance the liberal/democrat cause of moral relativity and socialistic ecomonic policies. They bite hard and often at those who disagree with them.
