Mike McQueary Email: Penn State Assistant Shares His Side Of Sandusky Abuse Scandal

First Posted: 11/15/11 09:25 PM ET Updated: 11/16/11 06:55 PM ET

By The Associated Press

An email from Penn State wide receivers coach Mike McQueary, who was identified in a grand jury report as a graduate assistant who said he saw an assistant coach sexually assaulting a young boy in the shower of a university locker room in March 2002. The email was made available by a friend, who did not want to be identified.

___

... you are the first person I have told this ... and I don't know you extremely well ... and I have been told bye officials to not say anything ...

I did stop it, not physically ... but made sure it was stopped when I left that locker room ... I did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police .... no one can imagine my thoughts or wants to be in my shoes for those 30-45 seconds ... trust me.

Do with this what you want ... but I am getting hammered for handling this the right way ... or what I thought at the time was right ... I had to make tough impacting quick decisions.

This is off record ... again ... I have not and will not say anything to anyone else.

It can't be that hard.

The way McQueary describes what he did is very elusive. My interpretation is that when he went to the entry of the shower room and saw Sandusky and the victim, they in turn saw him and Sandusky stopped what he was doing. McQueary’s presence stopped the attack, not intervention.

I am curious about this email. It sound hoaky ...... McQueary wrote "you're the first person I've told this too .... and I don't know you extremely well ..... don't tell anyone else ....." WHAT??

And the police have no record of McQueary speaking with them about this???? Could be part of the cover up.

All I can say is that the spin is creating its own spin at thsi point. But McQueary is done, whatever the outcome.

Before we throw McQueary COMPLETELY under the bus... one part of his email is true - he did tell the individual who overseers the campus police about the shower scene... That's in the released Grand Jury report (Campus Police report to the fired VP of Business)... So THAT part of email is true..... As for "telling police" directly, who knows... The fact that the campus police or city police DONT HAVE A RECORD of the report - two words - COVER UP....

Every campus cop, every city cop, every one in the Penn State administration, secretaries, staff, everyone in the football program, coaches, assistants, student volenteers.... every single person needs to be brought in to a Grand Jury and asked the following questions - what did you know and when did you know it...

No doubt, McQueary has to live with what he did... But before I COMPLETELY want this guy drawn & quartered, we need to hear more.... I think there will be a whole lot of people that knew some things, heard some things, witness some things AND did nothing for years.....

Paterno got fired for following the law and
reporting to university officals what Mc Queary told him. They had a sit down
with paterno and McQueary. The police were notified according
to McQueary. We need a police investigation.

The ONLY thing he should of done is wrap a towel around that boy and gotten him out of there and called the police. Can you imagine what that kid was going through and then left with his abuser.

30 to 45 seconds?

Was he in a hurry to get out of there, instead of taking that child away from Sandusky and out of that locker room with him?

As in, "leak it for me, please"?

If you read this email, does it sound right? He says he talked to police and an official at Penn State. If you are going to defend yourself, and you are that motivated to write an email, that you know you shouldnt be writing to begin with, woulnt you say exactly who you talked to? WOuldn t you say I talked to Schultz, and he is lying, or name names? Then he says he doesnt know the person he is sending this to very well? I am wondering if someone hacked into his email acocunt and wrote this and sent this. Maybe Sandusky has access to this guys email account, nothing would surprise me. MCQ has not publicly said he sent this has he? This doesnt pass the smell test with me..just the content and ..how it is worded..

Of all the Planets, WHY was I born on this one?

So according to the FULL GJ Report he stated that he "stopped it and later had conversations with PD".

But here is the rub. The GJ subpeonaed all PD files and CWS, and neither has ANY reports regarding this incident. So either CWS and PD is lying or McQeary is.

And telling (supposedly), Sandusky to stop, BUT LEAVING THE CHILD WITH HIM, is STILL cowardly and a failure of common sense, common humanity and everything decent.
09:34 PM on 11/16/2011
And my worst fear about this was realized today when he stated both the boy and Sandusky saw him. Can you imagine this poor child watching this fool walk away after what he saw - here the kid was probably thinking thank god, someone is here to put a stop to this and get me some help, and he just walks away..........unforgiveable.

The cover is so deep the truth will stay buried.

Did he tell this info to the grand jury? If so, it's odd that they would leave it out of their report. And what did he do? News reports indicate that no one checked on the child, knew who he was, or physically rescued him. And the university says McQueary did not contact the police. I hope McQueary will tell the truth, and not dig an even deeper hole for himself. He's the only available eyewitness so far. If his credibility is damaged, Sandusky could skate (assuming he's as guilty as he seems).

no - there's plenty of victims who will step forward. plus there's one or two janitors who witnessed things too.

I've posted before that this says a great deal about the culture within the ranks of organized sports; misogeny, sexism, homophobia, hyper-masculinity, a culture of entitlement all conspired to allow egregious violiations by the boys' club to be ignored or get short shrift. Time for sports as an industry to aggressively police their own regarding all the isms and philias out there. Too many people look to sports figures and organizations as examples of what it means to be "man". In too many cases, the examples are incredibly flawed.

Why didn't he say he stopped it a week ago, or when everyone was piling on him for not doing anything. And now he says he did something about it. Is it the water out there in Happy Valley, or are new lawyers putting new spin on old facts.

He didn't do the right thing if it had the chance to continue to go on with his knowledge. He kept it on campus and with the university. He could have gone to the real police, outside the campus. Could have gone to the papers.

He is liar!

Ah, but if he'd gone to the real police or the newspapers, he would have been fired so fast he wouldn't know what hit him. Plus sued and blackballed. Never underestimate the power of $50 million dollars or so.

I'm torn about this. Its like making a deal with the devil. Without McQuery's testimony, this thing might never have come to light, so I'm thankful that he told the truth during his grand jury testimony. However, how he can rationalize that he did what "he thought at the time he was supposed to do," knowing full well that nothing came of the rape and that Sandusky continued to have contact with young boys, I will never understand.

You may not be culpable in your own mind Mr. McQueary but can you look those victims in the eyes and tell them you're sorry for not stopping him sooner?

What are they teaching our children over there for god sake. How to lie, cheat, steal, and be selfish at all costs to others. Great moral lessons from our institutions of higher learning.

Go Porn State.

This entire thing just doesn't sit right with me. He tells this to someone he doesn't know well? Why wouldn't say this during his grand jury testimony? Yea, I just don't buy it.

Does he still have his job because he made a deal to discredit himself as a witness? Honestly. I wouldn't put anything past anyone at this point.

He probably got a lot of criticism from friends and relatives...he had to do something to make himself look better.
