Zuccotti Park Cleared Out: Occupy Wall Street Supporting Celebs Speak Out (TWEETS)

Posted: 11/15/11 09:29 AM ET

As the New York City Police Department raided the Occupy Wall Street encampment at Zuccotti Park in the early hours of Tuesday morning, protestors scattered and reassembled, undeterred at what they saw as a violation of their First Amendment rights. Many have reassembled at the city's Foley Square, and others have marched through the city.

While Occupy Wall Street has never been about celebrity, many Hollywood stars have visited and voiced support for the movement and its stance against the radicalization of income inequality. And so as the events unfold in New York, celebrities have been chiming in with both outrage at Mayor Bloomberg for okaying the ouster, as well as admiration for and continued commitment to the protestors on the ground.

Here are a number of those celebrity tweets, including messages from Alec Baldwin, Russell Simmons and Mark Ruffalo; we'll add more as they come in.

Hitler would be proud of the cops of NYC, Oakland, Seattle, Portland - for not questioning the idiotcy of their leaders. He'd even kiss Bloomberg, Comm Kelly, and Judge Smallman. They need to resign immediately, for violations of the Constitution. They display the Corportate Nazism pervasive in this government and congress. Smallman needs to be investigated for probably taking bribes, and Bloomberg because his girlfriend had been made Head of the Board governing Zucotti Park.

Actors are famous for doing absolutely nothing, just acting like they are someone. They live in a fantasy world. A few came from lower income familys, but most had their parents to give them a start. Why would anyone listen or take advice from them. They are here for entertainment purposed only. Find the real hero's listen to them not televison or radio entertainers.

Alex, count your blessings that the government is protecting you, one of the rich and powerful. Start housing some of the homeless in one of your million dollar cribs. Come on. Do your part Mr. 1%

Can't be a good reason.

After two years on this site, I'm this[]close to ending my relationship with this site. The BS is starting to pile up on a daily basis here and I'm no longer interested in wading through it to get to the good stuff.

The funny part is that if there were any celebrities among those arrested, they would only get community service and a fine, not jail time.

Eli Roth said it the best, Wall Street’s corruption by having one of their boy as mayor has turn the NYPD against the same people they sworn to protect. Shame we’re officially living in a police state.

Whatever message these demonstrators wanted to send to whomever has been "lost in translation" and it is time for this "movement" to either move up to the next level or go home. Continuing this filthy lifestyle in the middle of our cities just drags this country down to an embarrassing level let alone what other countries think of us. The elections are coming and they will have their opportunity to vote for the candidate that best serves their agenda as this is the way it is done in this country, and if that process isn't good enough, move to a country that better fits your ideology, and leave the rest of us alone.

So if the process is broken, Move to another country instead of fix the damn problem??

REALLY? Is that what you would have told the colonists in 1776?

I was there today, read the posters and literature, listened to them speak, watched them, and the police. The media makes them out to be just like you and me, but vocal and victimized. What I saw was nothing like that. They were primarily a crowd of hippies, bohemians and anarchists, all staging a sit-in. Most appeared very comfortable living on the street, camping out, making a mess of public and private property, eating on dole outs. The loudest ones reminded me of the guy on 34th who screamed epithets at 3 races and threatened to do things with a knife to all the women in the crosswalk.

A woman was pan handling with a sign that said "I lost everything except my dignity." A kid sat there joking with his friends, and had a sign on his lap that said "Never stop fighting for freedom." Many were wild-eyed, enkempt, and resembled street "prophets."None seemed to have any respect for the crowds of onlookers (for whom they supposedly speak) or the property they have invaded for a tent city/soap box.

I came away with more respect and empathy for the police, who have to deal with them 24/7

NPR had a segment on yesterday that basically said the same thing about Oakland. There are a few people there for economic reasons, but too many drug dealers, pot heads and anarchists to send the kind of message that needs to be sent. This movement needs a march on washington DC. Like I said a month ago, it seems more like the parking lot scene at a dead concert than a political movement to affect change. The protest needs to be directed at politicians, not business. Wall St will never change until laws change and people start getting sent to prison.

Come on, did anyone expect anything different from Bloomberg and his ilk?

Bloomberg is a 1% and all his friends are also 1%s.

He nor his friends give a rat's bottom about the workers of America.

He did what he has wanted to do from the moment this started.

Mr. Baldwin.... I sent you one dollar when you promised you would leave the USA when Pres Bush was won his second term. I'd like that one dollar back since you did not use the money to buy a ticket to leave. You are not a man of his word so... why should anyone pay attention to your opinions?
