Deer In Headlights Saved By Michigan Police Officer (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/16/11 05:27 PM ET Updated: 11/17/11 09:55 AM ET

The expression "a deer in headlights" became a reality for one Michigan police officer this week.

A scared deer stood frozen in the middle of a busy Michigan highway for 30 minutes until a sheriff took matters into his own hands, reports KVUE.

The policeman lifted the animal to safety by moving it to the side of the road, and then waited until it calmed down and ran away into the woods, notes CNN.

The deer was thought to be in a state of shock from an earlier accident, explains 9 News.

This isn't the first time a deer has come head to head with humans. Last week, a deer crashed into a Taco Mac restaurant in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, losing an antler.

Check out the incident captured by the officer's dash camera footage above.

Most of you all must live in a city. For this one deer that was saved, 10 more were hit with cars in the same amount of time. The only reason this one wasn't, is because it was not moving, and in plain view of the headlights. The officer was only doing his job as a cop, and his duty of a hunter in conserving the species. No need in having a deer worthlessly killed, and possibly injuring someone because they were too busy looking at a cell phone, radio, etc. This deer, if it survives, will further help the population, and hunters like this officer and myself. Not all hunters are "blood thirsty savages" going for a set of antlers for the wall, we are sustenance hunters. We shoot what we need, and eat what we shoot. Since wild game is also the healthiest meat for you, not only do we help control wildlife populations, and conserve the habitat, we nurture ourselves with an excellent source of "organic" food.

A big thank you to this most compassionate officer.

Let's get this correct.....the Deputy Sheriff saved the deer....the Sheriff is nothing more than the department head...it's tje Deputies and the Correction Officers that do the real work. I should know, I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff that worked under the Evil Wm. H. Hackel and his assembly of butt kissing worthless personnel!!

This cop is my hero. He too time out to save a very scared deer/doe and then stayed with it until it felt safe enough to run back into the woods. This is what "Humanity" is all about. I am happy this beautiful deer/doe is safe and I am grateful to the officer who took the "Time" to care..

Human beings are to “rule” over the creation and creatures. govern, serve, and take care of as God does.

humans have no right to rule ove anything, they cant rule themselves and they have totally ruined nature, exterminated species and polluted our environment.the worst thing that ever happened to the planet was Christianity and its BS about ruling over all creation

ANIMALS ARE GODS CHILDREN ALSO, THEY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.
Because humans are created in the image of God, they are to rule as God would rule: not exploitive, but in a provisional and caring way.

Very, VERY cool officer! It's nice to know that good cops do exist out there! At least you weren't one of these folks that think the deer deserve to get hit and killed. WE are the intruders into their homes! Who knows, you may have saved more than this deer....You may have saved multiple human lives also! It's horrible when a car crashes into a deer! The destruction is unbelievable and people do die! Great work officer! You're a true hero!!!
