Lauren E. Pierce, Texas College GOP Leader Says Obama Assassination 'Tempting'

Hours after Pennsylvania State Police arrested a 21-year-old Idaho man for allegedly firing a semi-automatic rifle at the White House, the top student official for the College Republicans at the University of Texas tweeted that the idea of assassinating President Obama was “tempting.”

At 2:29 p.m. ET, UT’s Lauren E. Pierce wrote: “Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”

She is not a dumb girl, and I'm sure many Republicans and/or white racists have been forced to conclude what she has concluded. President Obamas is one of the greatest Presidents in American history. If he were to disappear today, that would be his legacy. So...you Republicans and racists should listen to the young woman and take heed. You have a year or so to destroy his legacy. Break a leg. The only thing I will add is that Republicans and racists are the most unpatriotic people I know. No matter how many songs they sing, flags they fly and stickers on their car. In the real world, there are consequences for saying stupid, irresponsible things. And she said something profoundly stupid and irresponsible. She deserves everything she is getting. She must take personal responsibility for her actions. Personal responsibility is something Republicans used to believe in. Not so much anymore. Nowadays, Republicans blame anyone but themselves. This Lauren Pierce obviously has friends at UT protecting her butt because when I called to complain, first I was hung up on, when I called back, some girl named April took my name and number and said someone would call me back.

I called early in the day and got through to the proper authority very quickly. She was very kind and professional and also told me the phones were "ringing off the hook" about this. The staff may just be overwhelmed and frustrated by now. Don`t quit trying though. Keep the heat on!

I also called the San Antonio FBI office. They assured me that they were taking this very seriously and taking action on it. Give them a call too. Terroristic statements concerning the U.S. President cannot be tolerated in our society, even if made by some fool who thinks that just because she is a big campus Republican, that she is immune from the laws of the land! We certainly have free speech, but there are responsibilities that come with that freedom, and miss Lauren E Pierce is about to receive an education on that point!

The fact that she said this after the fact shows an atrocious immaturity. I hope the Secret Service pays her a visit. I live in Houston now, but when I lived in Austin for two years it was the most progressive city I'd been to next to San Francisco. Folks, trust me when I tell you folks like Lauren Price are an aberration.

She is not the president of the college, which is the University of Texas (in Austin), you know, the campus from which that linatic Whitman dude shot all those people from the school bell tower many years ago. She IS the president of the campus Republican Club. It is a sad reflection on their organization overall and a slap in the face to Americans and Texans especially. We struggle with the current association with our governer, who can`t remember three things during a debate. this does not help Texas in any way. It hurts us!

If you all want to do something about this call the FBI Office in San Antonio 210-225-6741 and make a complaint. I did. Also call the college student clubs office at 512-471-3065 and ask for her to resign as president of that club. She has no right making a comment like that and shes the president of that club.

I suggest you take the advice of Ruth Caron, who has responded to your post. I am following those suggestions right now. While we may not be able to get her actually arrested, we will be able to get her investigated which will be a permanent black mark on her which will dog her the rest of her life! It will show up on every employment background check she will ever take. Maybe she won`t giggle so much when she has to say over and over, "Would you like fries with that?" Clearly she deserves it!

You keep glossing over the fact that she said that "assassinating Obama is tempting", then claiming (while giggling) that it was just a joke. I have personally called the UTA campus official in charge of these incidents and spoke to her about my concerns a s a U.S. citizen and a Texan about the seriousness of this incident. The woman I spoke with was very professional and knid and assured me that action is being taken now. She also informed me that her phone is ringing off the wall. trust me, Lauren E. Pierce will not be giggling for long. As another poster pointed out if the FBI or the Secret Service investigate her threatening comments (and they will) she will have a real hard time passing a background check to get any kind of good job in the future. She has crippled her chances of having a decent career. My next action will be to call the FBI in San Antonio and voice my outrage to them. We will see how long she giggles now. And yes, she ended her tweet by saying "don`t shoot Obama", but most people have the ability to "read between the lines", which is something you clearly are either unable to do, or willingly refuse to do.

I agree with you to a certain extent. You do have freedom of speech to say whatever you want, even shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre, but with that "freedom" comes responsibility and ultimately consequences: whether good, bad or unintended is all relative to the statement.
