Mariachi El Bronx Bring Punk Rock Mariachi To Conan's Show

Punk Rock Mariachi?

Formed in 2006 during rehearsals by well-known Los Angeles punk band The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx has always played it from the heart and never for laughs, saying "The project triggered something inside all of us that was unexpected. It's almost impossible to explain, but it felt like discovering a second soul within you."

True to form, the band does not restrict themselves in their interpretations of mariachi, listing in their press release how they incorporate different "facets of mariachi music, the most well know being norteño as well as jorocho, juasteka, bolero and corridos."

And just as well, for a punk band which strives for energetic release with every performance, their acceptance of why mariachi has made so much sense to them speaks to the multicultural reality of today's United States.

"Mariachi music is every bit as much of a soundtrack to southern California as punk. They are seamlessly intertwined."

Their performance on Conan's show proves it.

Mariachi El Bronx dress sharp, are true to the passions of mariachi music and they let shine through the influences Mexican culture has had in Southern California. They even have a a cologne, 'Barrio Sweat'.
