Kardashian Boycott Picks Up Steam: Will It Affect Kardashian Inc.?

Online Boycott Threatens Kardashian Inc.

The grassroots online boycott of the Kardashians is getting legit, with more than 146,000 signatures and over 63,000 Facebook recommendations as of Thursday. The "No More Kardashian" petition on GoPetition.com asks E! Online to cease airing "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and all its Kardashian spinoffs.

Boycott organizer Cyndy Snider explained the boycott in a statement: "We felt these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption. While some may have begun watching the spectacle as mindless entertainment or as a sort of 'reality satire,' it is a sad truth that many young people are looking up to this family."

The Kardashian sisters own Dash boutique stores, with their entrepreneurial experiences chronicled on the E! shows "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" and "Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami." The Kardashians earned a reported $65 million last year. Over the past four years, the Kardashians have collectively launched not only their boutiques but also jewelry, fragrances, candles, a sunless tanner called the Kardashian Glamour Tan, the online footwear site ShoeDazzle, and several clothing lines, including K-Dash.

Snider's site has received "very heavy traffic," as part of the growing backlash following Kim Kardashian's announcement that she filed for divorce a few weeks after E! aired "Kim Kardashian's Fairytale Wedding." The petition will close on November 30.
