Florence Welch On 'SNL': Two Looks, One Night! (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/20/2011 9:28 am Updated: 11/20/2011 9:28 am

Florence & The Machine might do well to rename the band Florence & The Couture.

The group, helmed by Florence Welch, has turned into quite the high fashion affair as designers from Karl Lagerfeld to Frida Giannini of Gucci embrace the flame-haired singer and her chic, bohemian style.

Welch looked posh as ever last night as she sang two songs on "Saturday Night Live" in two different looks. To perform the characteristically haunting ballad "No Light, No Light," Florence opted for an elegant black gown with a long skirt layered over a short one (providing "the mullet effect").

But she kicked it up a notch for "Shake It Out" wearing a black and white sequin dress with a plunging neckline and mini hemline from Balmain's Spring 2012 collection.

It was just two more high-style moments for Florence, who has been performing in all sorts of designer threads lately. She sang for a crowd in Sydney last week wearing a sequin frock from Jason Wu's Fall 2011 collection and earlier hit the stage in Miami clad in Gucci, the brand for which she is currently a muse.

And you can't forget her highest of high fashion moments: Florence performed at the Chanel Spring 2012 show. Wearing Chanel. With Karl Lagerfeld himself by her side.

Check out Florence's recent performance fashion in the video and photos below -- which looks suit the crooner best?

Its kinda like she's too amazing to even be slightly offered on the commercial level.

I don't care if she dresses like a bag lady. I absolutely love her music!

First thing I noticed besides her strong clear voice was her presentation, her art deco was stunning as was the next costume change. And the way she poses really makes a unique experience on all levels. One to watch and listen to!

Nope, seems to be following with mainstream fashion trends-- the shapes, the fabrics, I've definitely seen both of these looks before.

She is such an inconsistent singer, she drives me nuts! She will be off key on one number, or half of it anyway, and then she suddenly sounds great. Maybe she needs to have a pitch pipe with her at all times.

You fail to mention the designer of her first look... Theyskens theory!

Again, I don't want to make a cruel comparison - but if you gave Florence Welch, and Annie Lennox the same song to record, without each other's knowledge, and then compared them - I think you would find Lennox to have a better grasp of her bended notes.

Flo has to have been influenced by Annie - it is evident in her styling, but she cannot hit the mark.

Bob Dylan knows he sings off key - that's what Bob does...Flo does not seem to know it.

As I was watching her last night, I thought that she'd make a great Annie Lennox impersonator, and that she rocked the dickens out of that short dress.

I think that she looked better in it that the runway model they showed in the slideshow.

I just don't get the attraction to this singer...she sings off key (and not in a good way) and she belts it out like a diva and waits for the accolade.

I'm not sure if she would last the first go-round of "idol"...they would probably give her points for trying...

Plus - I was surprised to find she is only about 25 years old...(I know this will sound petty, but I honestly thought she was in her 40's...she sort of looks a lot older than 25...)

Of course, this is just IMO...

I dunno, I think that with the ubiquitous Auto-Tuner, Off-key may actually be the new in-tune.

I liked the jacket she wore for her performance of "Adult Table" best. Her features would look best in 1930s fashions; she looks like she comes from that era.

the hair just wasn't right either. It looked like she did it herself and with the clothes she wore, the hair should have held it's own as well.

Also two sounds in one night - she was so flat on the first song that I wondered if there was a brown-out at the cable company. I admit the second song was performed nearly perfect though (and was a much better song). As far as the fashion goes, heavy clothes drama or elegance would match her over-the-top voice and production far more than a meat dress matches Lady Gaga's Eighties rehashes.
