Israel: 'All For Peace' Radio Station Shutdown Ordered, Officials Say

Israel All For Peace Shut Down

By AMY TEIBEL   11/20/11 06:51 AM ET   AP

JERUSALEM -- Israel has ordered the shutdown of a dovish Israeli-Palestinian radio station, officials and the station's operators said on Sunday.

The station and other critics said the move was politically motivated, and part of a broader assault on democracy by conservative forces in the government.

Some members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition have pushed forward a series of measures recently that critics say are aimed at stifling opponents.

Among the proposed legislation are attempts to block most foreign funding for dovish nonprofit groups, lowering the threshold for politicians to file libel suits against the media, and a push to shift control of Supreme Court appointments from an independent panel to parliament.

Conservative lawmaker Danny Danon boasted that he had helped close the "All for Peace" radio station. Danon, a member of Netanyahu's Likud Party, claimed the Communications Ministry shuttered the station at his request, after he claimed it "incited" against Israel.

"A radical leftist station that becomes an instrument of incitement must not be allowed to broadcast to the broader public," Danon said.

Operators of "All For Peace" radio said they complied with a shut-down order issued last week. Israel's communications ministry confirmed it issued the order, and said the station was broadcasting into Israel illegally.

The ministry, headed by a Likud Cabinet minister, said in a statement that the station's Hebrew-language broadcasts inside Israel were "economically damaging local radio franchisees." It did not mention the issue of incitement.

Mossi Raz, the Israeli director of the station, said that it transmits from the West Bank where it is not subject to Israeli law. He told Israel Radio that the station, which has been operating since 2004, would go to court in Israel to try to get back on the air.

Raz also said the ministry had never questioned the legality of the station's operations in the past, and that the Israeli Government Press Office has issued press cards to the station's journalists.

The string of moves against Israel's dovish left wing has drawn heavy criticism of the government, and there have been signs that the government may be backing down.

On Sunday, an official in Netanyahu's office said the prime minister oppose a bill that would allow lawmakers to veto Supreme Court appointments. Conservatives say the court has a liberal bias.

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to publicly discuss Netanyahu's position.

Israeli journalists also oppose the tightening of a libel law that critics say would put a major chill on investigative reports.

The closure of the radio station "joins a wave of legislation and other measures against a free press in Israel that very much worries anyone who cares about Israeli democracy," said Danny Zaken, the head of the Israeli journalists' association.

So the protesters or the doctors who wanted to treat them are not part of Islam but only the ones who do bad things are?? By that same logic, whatever you believe is not very peaceful or civilized either!

Again and again and again and again the defenders of the Zionists continually point to other countries and other unacceptable treatment of people as some kind of a defense of the Israeli actions and mistreatment of people.

The actions and mistreatment by and of others in no way whatsoever diminishes the guilt of Israel for THEIR heinous acts / mistreatment of civilians over the decades.

Israel's record on human rights, liberty and democracy is not perfect, but it's100 times better than any of its neighbors.

Israel's million+ Muslim citizens vote for whoever they want without fear. They can peacefully protest as well - without being attacked. Muslims in Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Sudan, Somalia, etc, etc can only dream of such freedoms.

Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran are all state openly that their goal is to destroy Israel. But you never mention this. Why is that?

You won't even mention Hamas's 9000+ Qassam and Grad missile bombardment of Israel's civilians. 6000+ of these attacks took place AFTER every single Israeli left Gaza in August 2005. Why won't you even mention this bombardment?

Does Hamas get a pass on deliberately targetting civilians, thousands of times?

All For Peace radio was very generous in its efforts to be bipartisan, fair, and equitable. Of course, that means it tried to be inclusive of the viewpoints of all sides to the conflict. The act of closing the station, which technically operated within the PA's territory, and not within Israel proper, is shameful, and is in synch with several other recent steps by the current government that are peeling away some of the layers of freedom and pluralism in Israel. I hope that this gets reversed soon, and that both sides to the conflict get back to supporting each other in deeds, rather than looking for fault in each other.

What you are calling "crickets" are from the civilized people who have left the room so that only the sort of people who could or would support the violence of the Zionists over their oppressed refugees.

Freedom is a luxury when compared to just the most basic of HUMAN RIGHTS, which are entirely disregarded by the IDF as they shoot old women, children, and all the other civilians / farmers / families, etc., which there is more than ample evidence of their guilt. Even the IDF soldiers have come forward and admitted some of the atrocities which were committed in the name of Israel upon defenseless civilians.

Yes, but all you hear are "crickets".

“Australia Kevin Rudd Prime Minister

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Can somebody explain to me where the pro Arab crowd get the nerve to even discuss democracy?? Let alone criticizing.

I'll be happy to answer that question.

The Arabs are being oppressed and abused (and have been for many decades), by leaders, regimes, and governments which are supported by "democratic" governments like America.

So, those nations calling themselves a democracy are of special interest to their victims.

And, once within that conversation, there sure is plenty of room for criticizing them, isn't there?

You guys never get tired of making excuses and blaming America, are you??
What the US have to do with Syria? Libya? Iran? If anything the US is trying to assist in bringing democracy. Look at Egypt, The US forced Mubarak out, I don't see democracy any time soon. Iran? Carter pushed the Shah out, the Iranians put in power a bunch of extreme crazy's. George W insisted on free election for the Palestinians, and that was the first and probably the last election the Palestinians will ever see. Iraq? once the US is out watch out. Will be non stop blood shed. Enough excuses, please.

Iran has not invaded another country in over 350 years.
Israel attacks its neighbours on an almost yearly basis, and threatens them with war even more often.

Why are we still trading with them??

"All for Peace" just by its very name is anti-Israeli and anti-zionist, no wonder they shut it down. Now if it had been called "All for War and illegal Occupation and Oppression" it would still be open.Oh wait, it already exists!!! "Arutz 7" With wonderful broadcasts of hate and discrimination and calls for ethnic cleansing!!!Gamla, a group founded by former Israeli military officers and settlers, published these recommendations on its website in a nine thousand word manifesto titled "The logistics of transfer," penned by Boris Shusteff last July 3. The mass ethnic cleansing of every Palestinian, the author argues, is "the only possible solution" to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and is "substantiated by the Torah." (www.gamla.org.il/english) Gamla receives tax deductible contributions from a New York-based charity that claims that its goal is greater Arab-Jewish tolerance.

The expulsion plan provides details about how this will be done, in lightning military strikes:

"As an example, the relocation of a small settlement (1,000 people) can be completed within a 48-hour period, similarly to a military border-crossing operation. The abandoned settlement must be completely demolished level with the ground."

While Israel moves to implement the complete annexation of all the occupied territories, it would, according to the plan, have to subdue the population by carrying out war crimes and crimes against humanity if any Palestinians try to resist!

Again and again and again and again this poster can not defend the indefensible crimes of Israel by any other methods then pointing to OTHER countries which are also committing crimes and mistreating people.

But, as in ALL the previous weak attempts using this defense, it doess NOT WORK.
Just because crimes are committed elsewhere does not defend the Israeli ones.

And because America is so strongly supporting Israel, the ISraelis should be even less tolerated for their crimes, rather than looking the other way.

OK, there you go, a statement which confirms the Israeli desire for MORE free land.
Instead of being a religious based nation, Israel proves again and again that she is an aggressor nation, who is well armed, (even nuclear), and more than willing to use their weapons for aggression.
Do you see a difference between that and the Vatican?! I sure do.

What goes around comes around for this pirate, illegal radio station:

Danon: Leftist Pirate Radio Station Incited Against the State
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/149981#.Tss5rFa8hfY

He also recalled what happened with Arutz Sheva radio, which had broadcast for 14 years from a ship anchored at sea and was eventually shut down in 2003 by the Supreme Court, following motions by leftist MKs, who were unhappy with its nationalist-rightist viewpoint. The MKs claimed that Arutz Sheva was operating illegally despite the fact that an ultra-leftist station named the Voice of Peace had broadcast in precisely the same way for three decades, unmolested.

“We all remember what happened with Arutz Sheva, how people who wanted to listen to this station couldn’t do so,” Danon said. “What we saw today is that people from the left must also obey the law, and I’m very happy that we were able to shut down this station which was promoting hatred and incitement and did so illegally.”

What could possibly promote more hatred than the creation of a State from Terrorism, which then created millions of REFUGEES?!
Sounds more like they don't like being called out for the injustices they are guilty of, than concerned about creating hate.

Virtually all your posts seeth with hatred towards the Jewish state, Israel.

Strange really, because Israel's 1,000,000+ Muslim citizens enjoy freedoms that Muslims in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Sudan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, etc. can only dream about.

Consider this: in Israel, a Muslim citizen can PROTEST the actions of their government, and nothing happens to them!

We all know what happens to peaceful protesters in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Sudan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, etc - they are savagely attacked by the fascist dictators that run their country.

If you need some examples, watch the news.

"Democracy" to the fascist left is not really democracy but falling into line and parroting only their positions - or be condemned cursed and damned for failing to do so.

The station was operating without a license and inciting against Israel - something the left of course loves

Wrong. It was licensed by the Palestinian Authority and transmitted from Ramallah, Palestine. It did not need an Israeli license any more than WIndsor, Ontario or Tijuana, BC stations need US licenses to broadcast into the US.

You say,"the radio station was operating without a license."

But not according to the article above.  Did you bother to read it?

"Conservative lawmaker Danny Danon boasted that he had helped close the "All for Peace" radio station. Danon, a member of Netanyahu's Likud Party, claimed the Communications Ministry shuttered the station at his request, after he claimed it "incited" against Israel."

But the official reason for closing the station is it was economically damaging Israeli radio stations.

"The ministry, headed by a Likud Cabinet minister, said in a statement that the station's Hebrew-language broadcasts inside Israel were "economically damaging local radio franchisees." It did not mention the issue of incitement."

If it was operating without a license, why would the Israeli Communications Ministry let it operate since 2004, and why would the Israeli Government Press Office issue them press cards?

"Mossi Raz, the Israeli director of the station, said the ministry had never questioned the legality of the station's operations in the past, and that the Israeli Government Press Office has issued press cards to the station's journalists."

I smell a liar.
