Mark Consuelos On Regis Philbin's Replacement, 'Gay Marriage Plays'

Mark Consuelos: Who Should Replace Regis Philbin

Jerry Seinfeld has temporarily stepped in to fill Regis Philbin's legendary shoes on "Live." But if Kelly Ripa needs any advice as to who should be the permanent replacement, she can just ask her husband, Mark Consuelos -- he's got his pick for the perfect co-host.

"I haven't been asked," Mark tells me. "My fave is Anderson Cooper. Then next would be Cristiano Ronaldo. I think that would be funny."

Consuelos is among the original cast of rotating stars in the new off-Broadway hit, "Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays," a show he says he couldn't say no to, even if it does take shots at the guy (Cooper) who Consuelos thinks should replace Regis.

"When I found out who the playwrights were [Neil LaBute, Paul Rudnick, Mo Gaffney and Jordan Harrison] and then the cast, plus the message, I couldn't say no," Mark says. "Plus, I can walk to work and Minetta Tavern is a hundred yards away ... great cocktails." But will pal, Cooper, be okay with the shots at his private life? "Yes, he will ... He has a superb sense of humor."

To see Mark in "Standing on Ceremony," which features nine short plays from acclaimed authors, head over to the Minetta Lane Theatre. And look out for Anderson and Mark's wife Kelly to be sitting in the audience.
