Occupy Wall Street Wedding: Gay Couple Marries At Zuccotti Park (PHOTOS)

Gay Wedding Occupy Wall Street

First Posted: 11/21/11 07:55 PM ET Updated: 11/21/11 08:22 PM ET

Despite Zuccotti Park's shutdown almost a week ago, hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protestors have returned to march, drum and continue protesting.

Protestors may not have been allowed to bring blankets or pitch tents at the park, but on Saturday November 19, they had reason to celebrate -- activists Jonathan Lopez, 19, and Ivan Cabrera, 18, were wed in an "unofficial" same-sex ceremony.

So now we know who's behind "Occupy Wall Street" and WHY it's not adding up to a hill of beans in making any progress !!!! DISGUSTING !!!

I am a photographer at Bowerbird Photography, http://bowerbirdphotography.com, and we love doing photo sessions for queer couples. One of our photographers took pictures of the beautiful gay weddings in San Francisco City Hall when licenses were allowed for a short time 2008, but since the passage of Prop 8, unfortunately we have not been able to participate in any more City Hall weddings! We continue to document partners' love for one another outside City Hall. And had we known of this Occupy Wall Street wedding, we might have taken a trip to document the beautiful event. We're trying to put more of our pictures of our queer couples on the internet too, so that hopefully we can sway opinion toward passage of equal and fair laws - when you see photos of these couples you will be convinced of their love for each other. Businesses like ours support the legalization of gay marriage, and we are not afraid to come out about it!

To some, the use of the word "queer" is quite offensive. I would recommend replacing it with GLBT community/population.

Thanks for the reply. Many of our friends, family, and clients self-identify as "queer" and ask that we refer to them as such; but I agree, GLBT, is perhaps a more inclusive way to address the community without knowing who your particular audience is. Or, to add even more complexity to the issue, some communities rather prefer LGBT, LGBTI, or LGBTQ. Bit of an alphabet soup ;) In the end, it's all about being able to love someone for who they are... and that's the intention I wanted to convey. Whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, transexual, intersex, straight, queer... or anything else... you are beautiful! Does anybody else want to weigh in on the issue? I'd love to hear what people think is the appropiate appellation to use. http://bowerbirdphotography.com

I'm glad there are harmonious comments. It's a shame there was such ugliness for the Muslim couple marrying.

And Bible humpers everywhere proclaim it as one of the signs, "Jay-zuzz is comin' back y'all."

If your going to throw a party, might as well have a wedding as well.

OMG. I live in Chicago and can hear teabaggers heads popping all the way here. It's the double whammy that is their worst nightmare (Or, more likely, wet dream).

Adds to the comedy of the protest.

Care to explain why a same-sex wedding was a joke to you? I don't find anything funny in it. I think was lovely.
