Mitt Romney Leads Obama In New Michigan Poll

11/20/11 09:03 PM ET  AP

LANSING, Mich. — A poll of likely Michigan voters shows Mitt Romney beating President Barack Obama in a hypothetical matchup but two other leading Republicans losing to the president.

The poll released Sunday shows the Michigan-born ex-Massachusetts governor getting 46 percent compared to 41 percent for Obama. The difference is just beyond the poll's 4 percent sampling error. Thirteen percent are undecided.

The poll showed Obama with an apparent lead over Newt Gingrich 45 percent to 40 percent, with 15 percent undecided. And it showed Obama leading Herman Cain 50 percent to 36 percent, with 14 percent undecided.

Obama carried Michigan in 2008.

The results of the poll by EPIC-MRA were reported in the Detroit Free Press ( ), which sponsored the poll along with television stations WXYZ, WOOD and WJRT. http://on.freep.com/rDwjJU

Romney is a lying fraud who wants the American auto industry to go bankrupt.

I am a Michigander and don't understand the appeal of Romney. He may have been born here, but Mitt has done nothing for the state of Michigan. I view him in the same manner as Bush Jr....... a spoiled rich kid that has never worked a real job or earned anything by themselves. Many of us have met, worked, or know someone who was born into wealth and had their lives paved for them. Their worries and reality of life is very far removed from the average American.

Mitt does not care about Michigan.

If this poll is true, a lot of Michigan voters are sure ungrateful. I remember it was President Obama who saved the US auto industry and tens of thousands of Michigan jobs while Republicans tried to block his efforts and heavily criticized them. For voters to prefer a Repbulican today when Obama did so much to help that state is sad.

Looks like the media is focusing on Romney now. Let's see him fail horribly under pressure like the rest of the GOP hopefuls. Muhhahahah! I really need to work on my evil laugh.

All these polls are a bunch of BS. One poll says this, the other says that. In my opinion.... Barack wins the 2012 election. Reason: Because, though a lot of Americans are truly stupid, I believe the MAJORITY of Americans are NOT. Barack will win because the alternative is ghastly.

I truly hope that you are right. I'm beginning to be concerned about the lack of knowledge about the candidates and what they stand for on the part of far too many voters. How could anyone in their right mind vote for any of the Republican candidates? It boggles the mind!

That's just cause Mittens hasn't opened his mouth yet. Once he takes a stand and offers an opinion, he will go down in flames like the rest of the republicans. Why? Because they have no ideas other than cutting taxes on the rich. When Mittens lets everyone know that he has no other ideas either, he'll go down.

Truth to that. Unless he can manage to run like Harpo Marx, he'll eventually need to say something.

Obama will win again. He has the votes from 57 states
10:38 AM on 11/22/2011
So he was thinking 47, decides to say 50, and makes a mistake. You will never let that go?

The list of errors like that is very short, unlike the list that includes "putting food on their families."

If there is any credence to this poll then the people polled must not know or remember that Mitt Romney wanted to leave the automobile industry for dead at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

I find it odd, that the poorest cities in America have all been democratically controlled
FOR DECADES.
Odd, isn't it.
I guess the Republican run cities do better because they, well you know what they do.
Don't you. Could ya remind me?

Why focus on just cities, why not Counties and States, which are the poorest, Blue or Red ones and why?

Why so micro?

Because the truth hurts. The blue states are supporting the welfare red states.
10:54 AM on 11/22/2011
Somehow I am not at all surprised by this. Though I must say my most important takeaway is the Lincoln quote. Brilliant!

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up

by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man

by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage

by taking away people's initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them,

what they could and should do for themselves."

Abraham Lincoln

I doubt it...by the time the campaing begins and Michigan looks at Romney's anti-worker record...he will lose.
08:00 AM on 11/22/2011
Yes, but remember though. Detroit has been democraticly controlled for many years.
I don't think their record has been so great as far as revitalizing the community.
You can blame the republicans at the top if you want. But the people see the "government" of detroit being democratic, and they are in poverty.

Happy Thanksgiving to Republicans and Democrats alike,

one word...autos and there were more GOP governors then Dem ones.
10:43 AM on 11/22/2011
So, it it were run by Republicans, there would have been no problem when the auto industry collapsed? With thinking like that, it is too bad that FDR was president. We could have avoided World War II. We'll see if the voters in Detroit like that logic. They might.
