Black Friday Deals: 13 Big Retailers Offering Huge Savings

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/23/11 09:03 AM ET   Updated: 11/26/11 11:23 AM ET

With the budgets of so many stretched thin this holiday season, retailers are doing all they can to make sure there's a Black Friday deal for everyone.

Retailers from Toys 'R Us to OfficeMax are offering deals for big savings on Black Friday this year, the day that marks the official start to the holiday shopping season and the biggest shopping day of the year. Experts expect holiday spending to be down so getting customers in stores may be crucial for retailers. Many have already announced that they'll be going to extra lengths to lure customers into their stores and it looks like this year may be one of the highest volume Black Fridays in recent memory -- 10 percent more people are expected to shop on Black Friday this year, according to a recent poll.

Many Black Friday destinations such as Toys 'R Us and Walmart are opening on Thanksgiving Day and offering many of their Black Friday specials that night. Other stores, such as Macy's and Target, have pushed their openings up until midnight.

Still, for at least one customer that's not early enough. A Tampa, Florida-woman began camping outside a Best Buy last Wednesday, a full nine days before the Black Friday. She told a local news outlet that she's especially excited about deals for big-screen TVs, which several retailers are breaking out all the deal stops for this year. Stores are also offering huge discounts on video games.

But not everyone is excited about Black Friday, especially store employees who will have to leave their families to work Thanksgiving day. More than 100,000 people have signed a petition protesting Target's scheduled midnight opening, because it will require workers to arrive at the store on Thanksgiving Day. More than 15,000 people have signed a similar petition protesting Best Buy's midnight opening.

While many consumers and some retailers, such as Sears, may be sympathetic to the employees wishes, so far the petitions have been to no avail.

Here are 13 retailers offering big savings on Black Friday:

Black Friday is somewhat losing its appeal as a traditional shopping day. With the widespread use of the internet and online shopping, why waste your time leaving the house? You will have to deal with anxious other customers who are basically your competition to find sales. http://myblackfriday2012.net/ makes this shopping experience much easier as all of the SAME deals are there and you do not have to compete.

I was tempted to wait in line on Friday at Barnes & Noble for a Nook Reader on sale for $79.99. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Yesterday, I went online and found the same thing at Best Buy for $79.99. I paid for it, head it held in-store and picked it up an hour later with no waiting in line. Many of the Black Friday sales are repeated throughout the season on special sale days. I wouldn't participate in this madness if they were giving it away.

I went to the toys R us on black Friday because I shop for 5 children and I will buy various other children in my life a gift or two. I wanted to go to walmart afterwards but it was impossible because the line wrapped all the way around the walmart super center building. It must have been at least a 3 hour wait just to get inside!!!!

Nothing so clearly illustrates Americans misplaced priorities as black Friday.

I have a Hoover handheld vacuum that was made well over 25 years ago and it still works perfectly without a problem. I even use the same filter! It's absolutely fantastic. And guess where it was made? In the USA. I'd be hard pressed to find any vacuum (no matter what the cost) that was made in China and was capable of lasting 1/3 as long as this one.

Wouldn't it be ironic if that woman pepper sprayed shoppers so that she could buy more pepper spray?

Of the People's Republic of China................................

They learned their lessons well...............from the example of our Big Business leaders.

They don't have to fight America to conquer us.........................it's cheaper just to buy us.

Our decided not to shop this year for the adults only for the children. The wife and I have taken a different route with the children. I have built hope chest for my grand daughters with excess lumber from home projects (hickory, oak and cedar) and have built skateboard ramps for our grandsons. Call me cheap, but I think these will be around a lot longer than some store bought novelties.

Opening at midnight is just dumb. Everyone should just open at 8am out of common shared decency, and people would line up just as long.

Don't fall for it.

Shop downtown. Shop the little shop in the center of your own home town. They're bending-over backward to serve you.

Spend more of your money at Walmart. It's good for the stock holders and helps pay for the education of Chinese children.
