Delaware Art Museum/Delaware Symphony Orchestra: New Year's Eve Party
The Delaware Art Museum and the Delaware Symphony Orchestra are joining forces for a culture-filled New Year's Eve party that promises to be Delaware-ific. The Wilmington-based institutions will share hosting responsibilities, starting at 7:30 p.m. at The Grand Opera House, where the DSO will perform Hollywood to Vienna, an homage to "favorites of the silver screen and traditional Viennese waltzes." Patrons can then get over to the DAM, where at 10 p.m. they will be greeted with food, live music and champagne. The action ends at 1 a.m. Tickets to the DSO event range from $55 to $75, while admission to the DAM event is $125 per person ($100 for museum members). Guests can purchase tickets to either both or just one event -- there is no joint-admission ticket.
Always Awesome New Year's Eve Bash
The ever-popular Starboard in Dewey Beach has been a Delaware institution since 1961, with a summer party scene that draws folks from all over the mid-Atlantic region. The bar/restaurant shuts down for the winter, but beach lovers can get an off-season fix when it reopens for its biggest party of the year at the annual Always Awesome New Year's Eve Bash. The party lasts all weekend, with live music and the Starboard's resident disc jockeys. Attendees ring in the new year with a light buffet and a champagne toast at midnight. Tickets are $25. All attendees must be 21 or older.
Once your 2011 is officially over, the best way to start 2012 fresh is to...plunge into the freezing cold waters of the Atlantic off the Delaware shore. Fenwick Island continues its now seven-year tradition of gathering hardy souls to take to the January ocean on the early morning of January 1. Your efforts will not only shake out the cobwebs of the previous decade-or-som but will also raise money for the Fenwick Island Lifeguard Competition Fund, helping these lifesavers take place in national events. You'll need to register in advance at the town of Fenwick Island's website.
