Terry Martin, Australian MP, Convicted Of Sex Crimes Against 12-Year-Old Pimped By Own Mother

Australian Official Convicted Of Sex Crimes Against 12-Year-Old Pimped By Own Mother

A former Tasmanian Member of Parliament has been convicted of sex crimes against a 12-year-old girl who allegedly was pimped by her own mother.

But according to The Mercury, there was much more to Terry Martin's troubles, now including an admission that at one point he had hired both a transexual prostitute and a male prostitute. The new admission came out during pre-sentencing submissions after Martin was convicted of having sex with a person under 17 and producing child exploitation material.

Martin's defense had been a bit conspicuous, to say the least. According to ABC.net.au, the defense has maintained that medications the former Mayor of Glenorchy took for Parkinson's disease caused him to stray from his normal sexual patterns. While doctors testified that the medications altered the politician's behaviors, Martin was still found guilty of the charges.

From ABC News:

Martin's lawyer, Peter Barker, told the court between January 2007 and October 2009 Martin paid for 162 sex workers on 506 occasions.

Initially, the 54-year-old offender claimed that when he first responded to an ad for the girl's services in September 2009, he thought that she was 18. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, both the girl's mother and a Glenorchy man named Gary Devine have been jailed for prostituting the young girl.

The Herald reported that five other clients involved with the girl also believed she was 18, though Martin was the only one to see her in his own home. Martin also reportedly took pictures of the girl posing in a sexual manner for an additional $100.
