Looking for the perfect ways to cook your favorite traditional -- and non-traditional -- Thanksgiving dishes? Hollywood has you covered!

Sure, show business has plenty of personal chefs and event catering, but most people out in Hollywood didn't exactly grow up in the hills of Los Angeles. They had Thanksgivings with their families out somewhere else in America, gathered around the table digging into homemade meals like the rest of the nation. And plenty of stars still love to cook, and you better believe they learn from the best -- imagine being able to call up Anthony Bourdain or Martha Stewart on a whim?

I can vouch for Marilyn's stuffing being Sicilian in its origin.
Having lived in San Francisco near that Beach Street house in the Marina, I know for certain it's a West Coast adaptation of a very similar stuffing my NY Sicilian grandmother used to make. But she used cooked rice instead of sourdough.
Not only that but the herbs called for are more SF than Sicilian.
Italians in SF tended to follow the Northern Italian lead in their cooking --probably from neighbors-- which invariably calls for rosemary.Sicilians elsewhere rarely if ever use it.Which is why NY Italians are always homesick for NY food when living in SF.
Also Northern Italians lean more toward ground beef while Southerners would have preferred pork. We used sausage.
I am positive that Marilyn got this from some contact with the Dimaggio's and someone in SF-- a more experienced cook- --wrote out the recipe which she probably copied out in her own hand while there.

I never imagined I'd be getting the blueprint of the recipe for Grandma's stuffing from Marilyn Monroe. Now if I can only re-tool it to being New york Sicilian it will be wonderful.
I am sure this is good, but to be truthful old-school Italian food in San Francisco was never that great to anyone who grew up on New york Italian cooking. As time went on and the food revolution happened, San Francisco Northern Italian started turning into New York Southern Italian. Thank God..

That's so interesting. My folks are Sicilian and were up in Berkeley and yes, the stuffing is just as you describe here. I don't think there was ever any Northern Italian influence though, because my relatives were country as a chicken coop and cooked the same way they did at home in Palermo and Trapani.

I didn't care for the ingrediant list of Marilyn's stuffing so I will stick to my family's favorite. Apples, sausage, cashews your normal herbs and of course the bread cubes or store bought stuffing with turkey or chicken broth. ummmmmmm

Yours sounds a lot like mine - I use chopped walnuts instead of cashews. I also add small broccoli tips, carrots sliced very thin, some home fries (small cubed), and raisins or currants.

well, if you used sausage instead of the livers and ground beef. and i would replace the raisins with craisins, it wouldn't be bad. i use pecans, sausage, apples or cranberries in mine. i use bread cubes too.
