'All My Children,' 'One Life To Live' Both Canceled By Prospect Park, Series Dead

Soap Operas

"All My Children" and "One Life To Live" are both dead, after all.

Following their cancellations by longtime network ABC in April, it was announced that internet distributor Prospect Park had licensed the rights to the shows and would continue them on a new online network. Now, Prospect Park is suspending their attempts to broadcast the shows, too.

"We believed the timing was right to launch an Online TV Network anchored by these two iconic soap operas," the company said in a statement, "but we always knew it would be an uphill battle to create something historical, and unfortunately we couldn't ultimately secure the backing and clear all the hurdles in time. We believe we exhausted all reasonable options apparent to us, but despite enormous personal, as well as financial cost to ourselves, we failed to find a solution."

Earlier in the month, Prospect Park announced that "All My Children," which ended its run on ABC in September, would not be continued, but "One Life To Live," which runs on ABC until January, would be launched following its televised end.

There were rumors that iconic "All My Children" star Susan Lucci was unwilling to continue with the show, leading to "AMC's" demise, but she quelled that talk with a Facebook post last week.

"This is simply untrue and not the case," she wrote. "We have been in discussions since Prospect Park first expressed interest in moving the series online, and in correspondence dated September 8th, I made it clear that I would be ecstatic to be a part of 'All My Children' in a prominent way if they committed to producing the series for another year."

Its was a novel concept to lure viewers from the boob tube to their pc's to watch "tv" - I was looking forward to the change, but obviously prospect park is not a strong enough company to break new ground. Shame of PP, shame on ABC.

I will be boycotting ABC daytime - morningtime (don't watch them much at night anyway).

UNOCCUPY ABC!

I told you all prospect park was a lie from day 1. It was absolutely absurd to even consider it as truthful. pp IS OWNED BY DISNEY!! Too late now as stupid as the pp farce was you all bought into it!

I never bought it for a second that prospect park would follow thru - ABC really has hit us where we hurt - we will after next week have no longer One life to live - which has become a staple in so many of our lives and feel that all the people on this show are a part of us. The only thing that I will be watching on ABC will be GH - the new show replacements will not be watched by me and I hope that these shows will sink deeply in the ABC ocean. We will miss our OLTL...........

I'll NEVER watch The Chew or The Revolution. I"m done with ABC. There's plenty of good shows on the other networks. Who needs ABC?
01:33 PM on 01/13/2012
what about General Hospital? A Few Cast members from OLTL Will be on there has Blair,Todd,Starr & John Mcbain?
10:58 AM on 01/14/2012
Yes I'm going to watch GH until ABC takes it off the air and you know it will to make room for another stupid show we don't want, namely Katie Couric. I don't give a rat's you know what about her. lol
04:52 PM on 01/19/2012
Unfortunately, the crossover from OLTL to GH is only for a few episodes. :( So yea, done with ABC. On a happier note, the revolution is tanking! And now that the chew can't run over into OLTL , forcing us to watch a snippet of it, I hope it tanks as well!

I think that it is just so wrong to cancel One Life To Live. I really enjoyed the show and has NEVER missed an episode. I used to watch it with my grandmother all the time before she died. Without the show, there is no reason for me 2 happy any other crappy soap opera. Im just so mad and hurt that this would happen. Please try and keep the show on for a long time. Im not ready to say goodbye to this show as well

this really sucks I was looking forward to both shows being online so Prospect park and ABC can stick it where the sun don't shine both are a big disapointment, bring our hopes up then dump us in the dirt. I hope ABC falls on it's face and their ratings drop to nothing. all these years the loyal fans have tuned in just to be greedy and forget about our loyality, shame on both of you. I will no longer watch ABC no matter what they put on the air. I will stick to my satalite TV. all because they got money greedy what a shame this is discusting.

With the soaps dying, aspiring actors will no longer have daytime drama to use as a stepping stone. Many now famous actors cut their teeth on daytime drama--Kathy Bates, Brad Pitt, Chris Noth, Julianne Moore, Anne Heche, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Josh Duhamel, Calista Flockhart, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Bacon, and Melissa Leo. It's a shame.

Well OLTL writing had gotten so bad that it should have been cancelled. This show use to be so great that I actually would schedule my Dr.'s appointments around it, although I DVR it everyday, but the writer Ron Carvalitti and the PTB Brian Frons and Frank Valentino ruined this show. They insulted 3 core groups of their viewers, the AA community, the Gay and Lesbian community and the Latin Community and they kept pushing characters on the show that the majority of the viewers hated and therefore viewers left in the thousand. They also let go great actors and a major character on the show for what soap viewers call newbies. So OLTL was so bad, it deserves to be cancelled. Some of the veterans on the how those that left and are still there even wrote statements that Brian Frons sabotaged the soaps on purpose. Disney owns ABC, and they dropped the ball and will pay the price because so many fans are ticked about losing two favorite soaps that they are campaigning to boycott anything on ABC.

That's because frons fired the writers and gave the jobs to his buddies. All part of his plan to make it fail and get rid of us.

This is like a death in the family since I have watched OLTL since the first day it aired.
I had high hopes for the online version to work and now it's devastating that they won't even give it a try.
Thank you Erika Slezak, Michael Easton, and all the other cast members who tried so hard to keep this fabulous show going.
I will miss you more than I can say!
