Lawrence O'Donnell: Mitt Romney Obama Ad 'Entirely A Lie' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/23/11 09:13 AM ET Updated: 11/23/11 09:36 AM ET

Lawrence O'Donnell piled on Mitt Romney during his Tuesday show, saying the GOP presidential candidate had told a flat-out lie in his first television ad of the 2012 campaign.

Romney drew fire for the ad, which shows President Obama saying, "if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose," but does not point out that Obama was quoting John McCain at the time.

"Mitt Romney's first television ad is simply and entirely a lie," O'Donnell said. He brought on MSNBC's Eugene Robinson, and said Romney was "testing the media" to find out whether people would call the spot a lie. "The truth is, most of the media is going to allow those things to fly as if they are the standard-issue spin of campaigns," he said.

The reason that Romney has not been able to make more headway with the Republican/TeaCupping base is that the base views Romney as a quasi-liberal wuss. When, at the end of October, White House senior advisor, David Plouffe, revealed to the world that Romney "has no core", Romney's people, in mega-wuss mode, could think of nothing stronger than asking if Obama might be wiling to sort of apologize for  Read More...

O'Donnell is way off base here.  The ad wasn't entirely a lie.  Mitt's hair is not a lie.  See, O'Donnell???  Don't you look bad now?

Yawn. O'Donnell goes after a conservative? That's like reporting that fish swim. Please...

I agree that some authors need to pick on specific people less (this one has a lot to say about Romney lately), but your statement that it is somehow fabricated because of this undermines the truth that people need to be told when things are said by a person, that could end up leading the country, that are a lie. Going after the right, who increasingly partake is such behavior (all while shouting the loudest about what one or two politicians on the left have done once or twice, not all the time, which is completely out of touch with the issue) is only natural. People may like you and your commentary, but you should think about what you're saying before you say it. Bias or no doesn't necessarily make a person wrong.

When the people of Mass realize that Mittens is not the person who wanted to be their Governor but who now wants to be President he will loose to President Obama. I do not think that they will vote for the far right extremes that he will go to into order to win the GOtP primaries.

All who are running for political office should be called out for their lies regardless of political party affiliation. Leave partisanship out of it and watch all politicians closely.

Mitt stepped in it big time.

We'll never be able to listen to him again without wondering what lies and distortions he's telling us.

You need your mitts over your ears when Romney opens his mouth as otherwise you will feel that you are losing it.... today he will say one thing and tomorrow he will say the opposite, he will make you feel like you are losing it.. and now.. he is getting down and dirty, lying.

Unlike the 'anchors' over at Cluster-Fox, at least Lawrence's reports and commentaries (which are fact-checked, by the way) are based on and in reality, not ill-will and/or innuendo - those are a Cluster-Fox speciality, it seems. Should Lawrence make an error, it's corrected in a timely manner (usually on-air). Cluster-Fox 'pundits', however, and their openly-partisan slant in their 'reporting' have tipped their hand, and led them spiraling ever-downward into the cesspools of yellow-rag rhetoric...where they seem perfectly content to stay.

Romney is just not credible. He's back and forth on everything and seemingly desperate for this. He lost more elections than he's won. Says he's not a politician, but clearly is. Has 250 million dollars and wants a job that would enrich mostly him and his backers, and set up pension and more security on the publics dime to do what? Further enrich himself, accept a pension he doesn't need, live off the public though he clearly has enough money and property for the next romney generations, and for what? He isn't offering America anything for it. His policies don't have anything new to add. Same ole blah, blah with new hair.

When politicians lie to convince the gullible voter in America we continue to get the same rhetoric from our Government in the long run...BS and more BS.

This is ominous, a menancing foreboding of the path, people without integrity, will take, in order to attain a "seat" at the table, when they feel their true abilities are inadequate..........when medeocrity is so evident. Mitt Romney has revealed a weakness, when he used an omission of the TRUTH, to distort part of a speech given by Obama. The statment actually made by John McCain, shows a deceitful practice of keeping the weak side of McCain's campaign from the public. Obama was pointing this out in his campaign.
For Romney to use this, with the omission lie, is evidence of how he would campaign as Republican nominee, and how he would govern as POTUS

"He can only run against Reagan and Bush." Can YOU say "naive"?

not to mention he hasn't been completely bad for the economy. This kid has been told by somebody that he's/she's in the middle. However, spreading misinformation is not in the middle and when its negative misinformation about the left that's being spread, it becomes obvious which kind are telling him/her that he/she is in the middle. Either way its a lie to call oneself indamiddle if that person is in fact spreading misinformation like the current right-wing conglomerate.

MSNBC should find another anchor to blast Romney's dishonesty, as O'Donnell is viciously anti-Mormon, thus giving the Romney campaign an easy comeback.
