Mike Huckabee Not Yet Prepared To Endorse Mitt Romney

Who is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee going to endorse for the GOP nomination? That seems to be up for debate.

In an interview with WABC's Aaron Klein over the weekend, Huckabee said he's not planning to make any endorsements for the primaries.

However, when asked if Tea Party voters should stay home on election day if former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney gets the GOP nomination, Huckabee said: "It would be real tragic if they stayed out. Mitt Romney may not be their first choice, but Mitt Romney every day of the week and twice on Sunday is going to be a much more effective president for issues that they care about than Barack Obama."

On Tuesday, sources reportedly told C-SPAN Political Editor Steve Scully that Huckabee was set to back Romney.

Not so, says ABC News Deputy Political Director Michael Falcone. His source says such reports are premature.

Who to believe? How about Huckabee himself? The Fox News host reportedly e-mailed ABC News' Senior White House correspondent Jack Tapper with a comment about his supposed endorsement.

On Dec. 3, Fox News will host a candidates' forum in New York. Huckabee and three Republican state attorneys general plan to pose questions to any candidate who appears. So far, Romney, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Rep. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) have all agreed to participate.
