Mitt Romney's Awkward Exchanges With Humans

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 11/23/2011 9:45 am   Updated: 12/02/2011 5:07 pm

It's no secret Mitt Romney's not the most personable politician around. He's been described in the media as wooden, stiff, robotic, unable to relate to voters, out of touch, and as 'America's awkward stepdad.'

The Onion put it another way with this recent headline: "Mitt Romney's Goal To Connect With One Voter By The Time This Is All Over."

Despite Romney's increased effort to appear casual and charming to voters -- he stopped wearing a tie on the stump and enlisted the help of his wife, Anne, to bring a more personal touch to the campaign -- Romney has had a tough time jibing with the average Joe. Check out some of the best Romney-meets-humans moments:

At a campaign stop this spring in Derry, New Hampshire, Mitt Romney pulled a gag that raised eyebrows. While posing for a photo with his arms around the waitresses at Mary Ann's Diner, Romney suddenly jumped forward, acting as if someone had pinched his hind quarters."Oh, my goodness gracious!" he exclaimed. The GOP presidential candidate later said he was "just teasing" and the gag is "kind of fun to do."

Romney make John Kerry seem like a gregarious social worker.

You didn't need to go to fifteen. You could have left out the "no place like chrome for the Hollandaise" and the "I am John Kerry" bits, because those were actually not bad. If somebody you liked delivered the same lines, you'd think they were very clever.
The "corporations are people, too" line, plus his nastiness as an airline passenger, should be enough. That plus, of course, that he thinks lying is a perfectly acceptable campaign tactic.

If you listen carefully, you can hear whirring, racheting, and clicking when the Romney-bot moves. Also, the slap-slap of flip flops flipping and flopping.
11:06 PM on 11/25/2011
I've said before, he reminds me of the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. That's his joints causing the whirring and clicking you're hearing.
01:10 AM on 11/27/2011
That is an unfair criticism. The Tin Man needs a heart. Romney-bot works perfectly well without and does not need one.

Remember when you were young and you thought your dad was a dork, and it turned out he was a pretty good dad, still a dork but pretty good. That's Mitt.

Vote for Mitt, because you know all those things he is promising, pandering to the right to get the nomination, He is going to flip flop away from them when the gets to the general and the majority is for something else.
10:57 PM on 11/25/2011
THAT my friend is why I would NOT vote for Mitt. He has no core. You can't trust a person like that.

I have to admit, the first time Romney pulled the pretend his buttock was pinched trick it wasn't too funny, but the 10th time, it started getting real funny.

Yeah, it took me back to elementary school. The boys used to pull those kind of things along with turning up their eyelids and giving our arms "Indian burns".

romney is certainly out-of-touch, with the average american. he seems, he's not comfortable, with the 99%. the elderly, disabled, middle class, working class, poor. his comfort zone, buying and selling american companies, outsourcing tens of thousands of american jobs to foreign countries, and getting those darn bush/republican tax breaks. all for the wealthiest, wall street, and huge corporations. his great jobs plan, giving even more tax breaks to corporations. his claim, the more profit companies make, the more "likely", they will re-invest....he may call it his jobs plan, i call it ridiculous....corporations are sitting on a trillion dollars of profits. they are not re-investing, they are giving themselves ridiculous bonuses, closing down american factories, building and relocating operations to foreign countries, outsourcing american jobs, flooding the u.s. market with their foreign made products, hiding behind the bush/republican tax code provisions, which allow them to "avoid" paying u.s. taxes on foreign profits, in which these corporations are lobbying heavily to extend permanently...so, yes, romney is out-of-touch with the 99%.

The Presidency seems to be one of those jobs where being smart is probably more important than whether the guy wpuld make a good drinking buddy.

You left out the most important characteristic of Milt "Dr. Stangelove" Romney--that he's stark, raving mad.
