Thanksgiving Playlist: Listen While You Cook (AUDIO)

11/23/2011 06:34 pm ET

Music has a way of filling in awkward silences, which there should be plenty of on this day of family gathering -- especially in the hours before the meal, when tensions in the kitchen can run higher than the oven temp. Along with these ways to avoid a Thanksgiving Day meltdown, food-themed music is a good course of action. Music that has to do with pie and green onions usually tends toward the more lighthearted, the nostalgic -- both good feelings to have around family. So stop worrying about your sister putting too much butter in the mashed potatoes! There can never be too much butter! Mash away your worries with Rosemary Clooney, Tom Waits, A Tribe Called Quest and more right beside you.
