Egypt Protests: Scenes From Day Six

A sixth day of protests rocked Egypt's Tahrir Square on Thursday, as demonstrators continued to demand an end to military rule. Fighting was less fierce today after security forces and protesters held to a truce negotiated by Muslim clerics. Yet thousands continued to protest on Cairo's Tahrir Square, chanting "We are not leaving, he leaves," referring to Egypt's military ruler Field Marshall Tantawi.

Egypt's military rulers announced on Thursday that despite the violence, elections will go on as scheduled. "There will be no postponement in the election," said Maj. Gen. Mamdouh Shaheen, one of two members of the ruling military council who spoke at a televised news conference, according to the Associated Press. "The election will be held on time with all of its three stages on schedule."

The military also apologized for the death of more than 30 protesters in clashes with security forces and promised an investigation into the deaths.
