Black Friday -- the two foreboding words conjure up visions of winding lines, stuffed shopping carts, stampedes of shoppers and seriously annoying commercials.

Every year there are crazy stories, including this year's pepper spray incident. So we've pulled together a "greatest hits" of Black Friday lore, from the horrific to the romantic (really!).

Unfortunately, so many Black Friday moments end in some sort of tragedy -- get it together, people! That plasma TV is just not worth it!

Check out the cautionary tales of shopping below.

In 2010, a Target in Buffalo turned into a zoo of wild animals, as a stampede broke out when the doors opened for Black Friday, Mediaite reported. One person was injured and rushed to the hospital amidst the chaos. Watch the disturbing video, in which you can hear the shrill cries of help from a woman and man who are literally being trampled on by crazed shoppers. Insanity.

Why not just use http://myblackfriday2012.net/ and make the day online only? Traditional store shopping is really becoming obsolete and Black Friday 2012 would work much better as an online day only.

You know, I'm not sure I'd want to marry someone I met in line...at Kmart...on Black Friday. Now if I was waiting in line at Saks, well....maybe....just....maybe...

So very true, I always advise standing around at Neiman's or Nordies. At the very least we could discuss their respective Christmas Catalogues with some panache. F and F. Thanks for the laughter that was a good one.

I'm starting to think we should boycott all stories about Black Friday. The coverage in the media is a huge reason for the madness. Nobody ever heard the term till 4-5 years ago, and now it's a big story. If you ask me, we were all better off before we knew there was such a concept in the retail world. The day after Thanksgiving was always a big shopping day, but it used to be within reason.

Yeah how on earth did it explode into such chaos and mayhem?

OK, story #10 says, "Police suspect that the carts -- which cost a hefty $200 a piece -- were either stolen by gang members to sell metal scraps for money or taken by homeless people who use them to carry their belongings." Those cops are soooo smart! How did they ever figure out that a couple hundred homeless people got together and conspired to steal all those shopping carts at the same time on the same day. This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard from law enforcement. Absolutely and totally stupid.

F and F and thanks for outlining the daft "investigation/conspiracy". They must have run out of pepper spray to keep those homeless folk at bay.

"Grandma, where ya going?"

"To Walmart!"

"Don't forget your pepper spray, hammer and handgun!"

"Okie dokie! See ya grandson!"

went to Walmart; and was impressed with the kindness, patience of the clerks. Long lines, but
people were polite and cheerful, laughing about the choas. Maybe it's just the NW.

No, it's people who are desperately grateful to have a job and they're going to do nothing to lose it.

I don't engage in any of the black Friday activity, but I also don't have a problem with those that do. In fact, I find the uproar a bit disingenuous. Nobody seems all that disturbed by people spending money they don't have on things no one wants. It's that they're doing so after Thanksgiving. Some are bemoaning the poor retail employees who now have to work. Lots of people have to work on holidays. Where is the outcry for the gas station attendant, the hotel/restaurant workers, police and firefighters, hospital and healthcare workers, 7-11 employees? www.HereSheIsBoys.com

Thanksgiving has been perverted by the big retailers, who have in turn the masses, into brainless minds. Thanksgiving Day has become a Greed Day. There are many distractions around you that there is no time available for "myself, meditation, my family, and community" Time for God is a very limited. God is remembered in times need The only moment in which the masses take a moment to "ask for God's Help is in Times of very strong need".

Some masses that do not participate in Black Friday Give thanks for and reflect on now is whether or not they scored that cool TV. Nice prelude to the Christmas season

In a number of countries people are rioting for freedom, in another country they are rioting for a $2 waffle maker.
