Obama Shops For Books With Daughters Sasha And Malia At Kramerbooks & Afterwords In Washington, DC

11/26/11 03:16 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has pitched in to help small businesses get into the holiday shopping season.

The president took his daughters, Malia and Sasha, along on a shopping run to a bookstore a few blocks from the White House.

He says he made the visit because it's "small business Saturday" and he wanted to support a small business.

The retail industry is encouraging shoppers to patronize mom-and-pop businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's a counterpoint to Black Friday and the sales and special deals offered by department stores and other large retailers.

The Obamas walked out with a selection of books including "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever" and "Descent into Chaos: The U.S. and the Disaster in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia."

Dude, I feel bad for his kids. I enjoy going to places where seventy people won't be lining up to bother my party. Can't a brotha spend some time with his kids?

What a tasteless comment. You should be ashamed of yourself. Are you relations with the former Sen. McCarthy?

Meanwhile, Perry took his kids to a gun store, and Gingrich took his kids to a sex shop, and Bachmann took her kids to look for $2 gas. Romney? He couldn't make up his mind where to go.

Bravo, Mr. President!! What a great idea, considering that not only are small businesses struggling, but bookstores and libraries are facing extinction. Another well made choice by our President. Thank you, sir.

There's no point in replying to Obama-bashers--you won't change their mind. If he cured cancer and discovered a never-ending supply of oil in the U. S., they still wouldn't approve. Let's focus on the point of this story: a parent encouraging his kids to read (as well as showing them that he also reads), and frequenting one of our most valuable resources: a bookstore.

Agreed. Which these very same posters blather on about on all the other threads: "Small businesses! Small businesses!" And then mock the President for supporting- small businesses. Shows what complete and utter hypocrites they are and how nothing this man does will ever please them.

What's so cool about them, is that they are so assessible. Never before, has there been a family in the White House, so willing to mingle with the people. I used to think that the White House was a SECRET, where only the elite had priviledge to.
