At last night's Gotham Independent Film Awards, Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" and Mike Mills' "The Beginners" tied for top honors, sharing the award for Best Feature. And the evening's best-dressed actresses also presented some serious style competition: We loved Elizabeth Olsen's sparkly Valentino Resort gown and Charlize Theron's decolletage-baring Gucci number equally.

Olsen, nominated in the Best Breakthrough Actor category, told us the choice to wear Valentino was clear. "This dress was something I became obsessed with a couple months ago, and then when I got nominated for the Gothams, I was like, 'I'm going to wear it!'" We also wanted to know how her style compares with that of her sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley. "People who know us well would say I'm a 50/50 of the two of them," she said.

And what's been the most glamorous moment of a whirlwind year that included acclaimed performances in Sundance favorites "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Silent House"? "Cannes," she told us. "It's just those magical red steps. There's also a distance between you and the photographers, so it doesn't feel so invasive. It's just so beautiful there, by the water."

Below, see what other stars wore to the event, which was sponsored by euphoria Calvin Klein.
