Iran Missile Site Destroyed (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/29/2011 2:25 pm Updated: 11/29/2011 2:31 pm

On November 12, an explosion ripped apart buildings at an Iranian missile base near Bid Kaneh. Although it remains unclear whether the site was sabotaged or -- as Iranian officials claim -- merely damaged in an accident, new images have emerged showing the the base before and after the explosion.

The Institute for Science and International Security issued a statement on the blast, noting that it occurred "as Iran had achieved a major milestone in the development of a new missile."

The Guardian reported that the blast was so powerful it rattled windows in Tehran, 30 miles away. 17 Revolutionary Guards were killed, including Major General Hassan Moghaddam, the "architect" of Iran's missile program.

According to AFP, a Guards spokesman said the explosion happened as "ammunition was taken out of the depot and was being moved outside toward the appropriate site." However, General Moghaddam's brother reportedly told an Iranian newspaper that the blast occurred during testing of an intercontinental missile.

Some have speculated that Moghaddam, who was instrumental in Iran's missile program, was targeted by Israel's intelligence agency Mossad. According to The Guardian, "Western officials would not comment on the claims, but would not rule out Israeli involvement." A Western intelligence source warned Time Magazine not to heed Iran's claims that the explosion was accidental. "Don't believe the Iranians that it was an accident," he said.

Below, satellite images from before and after the blast show damage to the site:

Looks like multiple explosions of small charges. No central crater, no debris spread form a center.
Smells of sabotage, not an accident.

A second explosion yesterday at Isfahan--the uranium enrichment facility. It appears that someone is taking steps against Iran developing both the delivery and the nuclear weapons. I hope they keep it up.

Good news of the day? Mysterious explosion rocks Iranian city of Isfahan. There's more to the damaged nuke facilities in Iran than we are hearing. Go Israel!

The current Iranian regime is made up of vile, barbaric religious conservatives, so if the regime is hurting, that's good news. The problem is that Iran one day will free itself of their barbaric rulers, and the U.S. and the west will miss out on a potential ally with a strategic location and strategic resources if it continues to use sabotage and assassinations as a tool to interfere in Iranian affairs.

That may be a problem down the road - but the current regime is an immediate, serious problem that requires an immediate serious response.

This was the US? No, it was Mossad. The CIA isn't competent enough to do this.

You know, anyone can see that the 1st satellite image is darker, blurrier, with lower contrast and shows little detail, whereas the 2nd satellite image, the "after", is brightened, sharpened, and more to reveal various details. Just look at the difference in the blue on those structures. One is rich blue and the other is bright turquoise -- and it's the same roof, just two different, manipulated pictures.

Mossad = resorting to diet and hair loss infomercial scam tactics

You do realize that Mossad doesn't control either Google Earth or the source for the second image, right?

you do realize anyone can edit an output from the two? LOL

You do realize those two pictures came from different satellites, right? GeoEye vs Digital Globe. Did it ever occur to you that because they are different sources, they would be different cameras; different cameras equals different white balance, contrast, sharpness and most likely, resolution?

With all that in mind, is it any wonder that although they are of the same object they look different??? Sorry for feeding the Mighty Numbnut Troll...but I couldn't help but try to enlighten the village idiot.

You don't have a trained eye to spot image editing when you see it. The sources are evidently different - no one overlooked that. The outputs of the images have been visibly altered.

Iran has the right to have nuclear weapons to defend itself against the nuclear enemies threatening Iran with war.
12:17 PM on 11/30/2011
No, Iran has no such right. You simply have no clue what you are talking about.

Israel has them (and not solely for 'peaceful ' purposes) why not IRAN
02:02 PM on 11/30/2011
The U.S. has a right to defend and protect itself. Israel has a right to defend and protect itself. Iran has a right to defend and protect itself. ALL countries have the right to protect and defend themselves, not just the ones we like.

Iran marches bellistic missile in parade through Tehran with "death to America" written on them.

They have made no secret of their desire to see ISrael wiped off the map. Thay have supplied thousands of missiles to Hezbullah and Hamas, and indeed thousands of Iranian missils have already been fired at Israeli civilians by these organization.

You are naive and confused - Iran is the one making the threats - maybe you are too young to remember, but there was relatively little tension between Israel and Iran before Ahmadinejad took office, started preaching Israel's destruction and campeigning for the denial of the holocaust.

They picked a fight with Israel - and now they are learning what that means.

Could be...Iran's more of a threat to them politically and offensively than Israel....particularly as Iran is a Russian client and many of the Arab states are more attuned to the US
11:20 AM on 11/30/2011
You don't know much about Russian politics do you?
10:51 AM on 11/30/2011
No the Arabs wouldn't take such a measure that may leave a footprint pointing to them. This seems more a job conducted by Mossad and their lackeys .
12:19 PM on 11/30/2011
Not 'lackeys', heroes. But you are right about one thing: the Sunni Arab nations doe not have a foreign secret service capable of pulling this off. Only Russia, the US, and Israelis do.

This is non of our business. But of course the American Empire will try and make it out business, and add it to the reason to invade.
08:12 AM on 11/30/2011
Another reason to get out of there. Most likely they will have a nuke accident also. Just get out.
08:37 AM on 11/30/2011
Get out of where? Huh? We're not in Iran.
09:53 AM on 11/30/2011
If this was a nuke would you want our troops anywhere even close? This small accident is a warning. These people dont follow the same safety rules we do.and there messing with atomic fusion. My math tells me to get far away. So does my common sense.

Get out of Israel - financially and militarily.... No more help of any kind. Time to let them fight their own wars, solve their own problems.
08:06 AM on 11/30/2011
of course the Mossad had nothing to do with this!

No way. The damage would have been much more severe.....and the blast frag patterns are not consistant with that type of action.
