Ray McCallum Jr Circus Shot: University Of Detroit Star Slips, Ball Bounces Into Hoop (VIDEO)

WATCH: Basketball Player Slips, Ball Improbably Bounces Into Hoop

There's an old saying that goes, "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."

In Ray McCallum Jr.'s case, 'lucky' is an understatement.

In a play that would seem more likely to happen during a pick-up game at the YMCA featuring uncoordinated recreational players, McCallum, a sophomore guard at the University of Detroit-Mercy, dribbled in the lane and lost control, but a fortunate bounce resulted in what might be the most unlikely basket you'll see this season on any court.

Both points scored would ultimately be crucial as UDM would go on to defeat Austin Peay by a score of 94-93 in overtime.

Perhaps McCallum's luck can be attributed to good karma. Out of high school, he was one of the top recruits in the nation, garnering offers from the likes of Arizona, Florida and UCLA. But after careful consideration, he decided to attend the much less heralded University of Detroit because he liked the coach -- his father, Ray McCallum Sr.

If there's any indication that the basketball gods were pleased with McCallum's decision to put family first, this is it.
