'CBS This Morning': CBS Morning Show Gets New Name

CBS Reveals Its New Morning Show Name

"The Early Show" is out. "CBS This Morning" is in.

The network revealed the name for its new morning show on Thursday. The name change is one of the most significant moves CBS has made to rebrand its morning news program. However, it's also a blast from the past: "CBS This Morning" was the name of the network's morning show from 1987 to 1999.

"The Early Show," which has been the name of CBS' morning show since 1999 has consistently remained a distant third in the morning show ratings war. It trails NBC's "Today," and ABC's "Good Morning America."

CBS has now undergone its second revamp of its morning show in as many years.

Along with the a name change, the network officially announced last month that Charlie Rose and Gayle King would join its morning show lineup. Rose will co-host the 7:00 a.m. hour with Erica Hill. King will co-host the 8:00 a.m. hour with Jeff Glor.

CBS' morning show has recently employed a hard news slant. As such, the network announced that viewers will not see King sitting on a curvy couch. Nor will viewers witness Rose making fajitas with a celebrity chef. A weatherman will not stand outside with cheering fans reporting the national weather.

CBS has also built its new morning show a brand new studio, which will reportedly include an exposed brick wall, and newsroom.
