Elizabeth Warren Is Pulling Ahead Of Scott Brown: Poll

Democrats' bet that former consumer finance watchdog Elizabeth Warren could take down Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) appears to be paying off, as a new poll suggests she is pulling ahead.

The survey by the University of Massachusetts at Amherst finds Warren leading Brown 43 percent to 39 percent -- just within the poll's 4.4 percent margin of error.

"These numbers could mean trouble for Scott Brown," said UMass political scientist Brian Schaffner. "The race is a dead heat and his support is well under 50 percent, which usually means difficulty for an incumbent, especially this far out from Election Day."

One sign of hope for Brown is that he leads Warren among independents by 18 points. But Schaffner noted that was not enough for the last GOP governor challenger to overcome the Bay State's overwhelming Democratic voter registration.

"Republicans must dominate the independent vote to win," Schaffner said. "Brown’s 18-point edge among Independents is impressive and similar to what Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker enjoyed in 2010, but that edge was not large enough to push Baker to victory."

Warren leads heavily among women and among people earning under $100,000, which the pollsters say is evidence that Warren's appeal to the working and middle class is resonating.

Elizabeth Warren is the most quality and most desirous thing that has happened for the Democrats for a long time. Her exquisite knowledge and way of articulating her views to the 99%ers will inspire many other Female Democrats to run for office, and indeed increase their prospects of winning. Her win next November against “ole Brownie” will propel her immediately into a highly respected position in the US Senate, and with God’s help make her a candidate for President in the near future. I’ve never been more excited about any other Senate, or Presidential, Democratic contender.

Contra--And for that bit of commentary, I will become a fan-- f&f. I too hope she will run for POTUS some day; this woman is not only well qualified to hold the most-powerful office on the planet, but she possesses qualities which are sorely lacking in so many of our elected (so called) leaders in both Chambers of the 112th Congress. She has more integrity, more compassion, more class and more intelligence than ANY of these GOP/TP clowns---making phools of themselves by the minute---have in their entire bodies--bar none! ....Elizabeth Warren, YOUGOGIRL!

Good think the Mass doesn't have a high concentration of people who think that way. Add to that the fact that a lot of people stayed home and that's how brown got elected. Warren is by far the best candidate and the most qualified. Braown is another example of the politicians the repubs like: easy to manipulate, not too bright and average intelligence at best, but the key is easy to manipulate and control.

If you haven't seen Warren's speech on the downfall of the middle class, it is sobering and definitely worth watching...very telling re. Warrens thought processes, problem solving skills, and able to assess a problem after studying the facts v. jumping to a rash decision...something we don't see in most of our politicians...

Well said and completely agreed. Her book, All Your Worth, is very sobering indeed. Should be required high school reading as it should be read before thinking of student loans and how to prepare for the future in uncertain times. FF.
