Chicago Hotel Hosts Artist-In-Residence Program To Expand Art Collection (VIDEO)

Hotel art is a punchline no longer.

With ever more properties investing in fine art collections worthy of a trip, the concept has finally hit the mainstream. But a forward-thinking hotel in Chicago is already pushing those just-expanded boundaries.

The James Hotel on Chicago's Magnificent Mile already had a well-regarded collection when it opened in 2006. But this November, the property invited artists from the Midwest for a short-term residence-slash-competition to further the fine art bona fides.

Filmed in a reality show format over four days -- though thankfully without the genre's normal trashiness -- two artists and an artistic collective go head to head to win a permanent space in the hotel's collection.
