Well, this is a match made in kiddie heaven.
According to Variety, Steinfeld is in negotiations to play the leading lady. Butterfield is slotted to play the title character, a prodigy gamer who's recruited by the government to help take on deadly, insect-like aliens.
Steinfeld is eying the role of Petra Arkanian, one of the few females recruited to train and fight against their new enemy. The children are separated into camps in "Battle School," where Petra and Ender become close and trusted allies.
The adult lead has yet to be cast, but there is talk of the role going to sci-fi alum Harrison Ford. (Amazing, right?)
"Ender's Game" is the big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card's critically acclaimed novel. Directed by Gavin Hood, the film is set to hit theaters March 15, 2013.
