With just a few weeks left before the "feel bad movie" of the winter finally hits theaters, director David Fincher is finally beginning to reveal substantial footage and details from his secretive big screen epic.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," the adaptation of the first book in the hit Stieg Larsson mystery franchise, this extended, eight minute look presents a dreary, moody vision of a modern day noir. Two-timing investigations, secret keeping and violent sexual abuse are teased in blue and grey textured snippets, promising fierce action and brutality beyond measure.

Starring Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, "Dragon Tattoo" has mostly teased quick cut sizzle reels, but from the video below, we can see that it's a whole lot more than just some violence and sex.

The film hits theaters on December 21st.

Loved the books, enjoyed the Swedish movies, especially Noomi Replace. However the Swedish movies were lacking on many levels so there is plenty of room for a new American adaptation. You can tell from this 8 min. trailer alone that the Fincher/Zaillian movie is truer to the book in some aspects. I did think that the Swedish originals did good job in not over sensationalizing the graphic violence that is so crucial to the story. I hope the Fincher film shows this restraint as well.
While the subject matter is disturbing it is nothing compared to the mindless crap that you see in so called action movies or video games.

The swedish films were tight! This film looks like Hollywood garbage. David Finchers a great director but so far I'm not impressed.

too bad this isn't nc-17. the books certainly indicate that the proper story as told would have been rated that way by the grandmothers on the mpaa.

still waiting for shame to come to town. will see it out of principle.

This is a David Fincher film. It won't be "dumbed down" and let's not pretend the made for tv Swedish films were some stunning cinematic achievement. They certainly were not.

Wow ! Love the trailer, it looks very promising actually , added lot of extra scenes ,hopefully it would be a mega hit and then we would be able to see all three of them.
With two darlings Plummer and Craig, can`t be that bad. But I wish they did not fake the accent, was redundant. .

Though this looks promising I still cannot fathom why they are remaking the fairly recent Swedish versions of Larsson's books. The Swedish version were very good and did a faithful adaptation from the books - are American's that lazy that we can't read subtitles? In any case, this film does look good, I just wish that such a fantastic cast could be utilized for something new and original.

I love foreign films and hate when they're dubbed.

That being said, having to read subtitles can distract from the film itsself.

If you have seen any of David Fincher's other films (Fight Club, Zodiac, Se7en etc.), this story is perfect for his style of film making. The Swedish films, I'm sure are very good...but Fincher will take it in a bit of a different direction style wise I would think. The books were a huge deal, so it was inevitable that an American company adapt these stories.

I don't get this movie. Some people sound German, others English, others American, dragon tattoo girl sounds like she's hiding (or affecting) a very thick Scandanavian accent. Where is it supposed to be taking place? and the most important question of them all: Why is it even being made? The original is fantastic, has been out for two years, and is readily available to watch instantly on netflix. Are Americans so lazy that they require a mediocre remake to an amazing movie just so they won't have to read subtitles?

I know Fincher will make a great movie but Hollywood will use his work to break down barriers and their resulting work will ruin film for years -----

the books have multiple brutal sexual rapes, murders, kidnapping, illegal wire tapping, invasion of privacy, computer hacking, guardian molestation

After reading all three and watching all the swedish versions , and loving them, I would definitely see this one as well ,`cause I have nothing to lose . But, perhaps wait for the DVD , just to avoid the rape and the violence. .

Trite, bland, and imminently boring. I find as much
interest in the blind leading the blind, i.e. those who
flock to these promos for pop books on the screen,
and I slap my head (instead of my drums).

As an entertainer, one gets fed up with the shmoozing.
Ohh, ahhh, isn't this so cool? Why, no it don't even
approach cool.
