Occupy DC Targets Fundraiser For Congressional Democrats

WASHINGTON -- On Thursday, the two-month anniversary of Occupy DC, approximately 100 protesters marched from McPherson Square to 727 15th St. NW to protest outside a $5,000-to-$75,000-a-plate fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

"This elitist event is indicative of how the Democrats represent a major part of our government's failure to represent 99% of its citizenry," read the Occupy DC action alert announcing the event.

At the demonstration, Joel Northam, a member of Occupy DC's Action Committee, told The Huffington Post, "This march is to show that we are not with the Democrats. We never were. We are not party-affiliated."

The protesters began marching from McPherson Square at 5:30 p.m., chanting and holding signs reading, "You can't buy my love" and "Occupy DCCC." As they arrived at the location of the fundraiser, police rushed to guard the building's entrance. But one protester still managed to emerge from a third-story balcony of the building to hold a sign above the crowd.

Protesters that night said they would continue protesting until the fundraiser ended.
