Questlove Launches Fried Chicken Food Truck

When he isn't sending subliminal musical messages to guests on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" or blowing the whistle on Occupy Wall Street raiders, Questlove has been dreaming up a soulful solution to late night snack cravings -- a fried chicken food truck.

Yep. The Roots' drummer is marching to the beat of a different drum these days, and this one is battered and fried and wrapped in origami.

"Food trucks are the new black. And I'm trying to prove that fried chicken is the new cupcakes," Questlove told Adweek at a party celebrating the launch of his locally sourced buttermilk fried chicken catering start-up, called Quest Loves Food.

The unlikely foodie and consumate freelancer (as Adweek called him, because of his DJing, Broadway and, now, soul food gigs) is said to be running the company out of New York and in his hometown of Philadelphia.

It's an idea he says he thought up while doing a few DJ gigs on the West Coast. "These really great, awesome food trucks would be outside selling weird specialty things. This one guy was selling his 'world famous' roasted corn. So at 3 in the morning, I'm watching these people kill all this Mexican corn. And I was like, 'Man, I want a food truck.' I imagined having a 'Soul on a Roll' Mister Softee truck that served good soul food," he told the magazine.

According to a related Twitter account, Questlove's creations include other reinvented classics, such as sweet potato pie doughnuts, on a stick.

"In a perfect world, I would like to have a line of 15 really funky food trucks that go to all the festivals, the Bonnaroos, the Coachellas," Questlove said.

In the meantime, he's taking his "Love Drumsticks" on the road, debuting them last month at the launch of Bon Appetite's BA Kitchen and giving guests an opportunity to taste them at New York's Blue Note jazz club, where he'll be performing (and eating?) alongside vocal artist Bobby McFerrin on Monday.

First of All the "Food Truck is the New Black" Comment is a Fashion Reference not a Racist One... I'm Black and I can see that... SHEESH!! Secondly, I kind of agree with Tracy A Brocker... I'm all for Soul Food but when dealing with something that's offered, supported & consumed by the Public providing as many Healthy Alternatives in a Country that has as Big of a Problem with Obesity as this Country, coming from a Physical Background of being of the Larger Sect of this Country(He's not necessarily a Little Dude, Himself) coupled with the Recent Deaths of Heavy D & Patrice O'Neal due to Physical Complications such as Diabetes, I would hope that more responsible choices will be made in regards to the Menu. Other than that, I think that the Idea is GENIUS especially with the Tie-In to the Gigs, The Roots Play everywhere and Questlove DJ's Everywhere... That's Called making money Hand over Fist! I'm just glad that the He has the Vision & Capitol to take on an Idea like this!! KUDOS!!

I think diabetes is the new Black. Why doesn't he launch a food truck that promotes good tasty and healthy eating. Thats not what a successful African American needs to do...push a fried chicken mobile. Like you can't get it through a drive thru already? Why not bring some fruits, vegetables and whole grains to the people?

I'm with you a 100% on this. He must have a stake in some hospital's ER because that's where folks will end up.

Well... Quest obviously loves soul food. Hey, i got an idea. Why don't YOU work hard at being successful, then YOU can launch a health food truck that promotes healthy eating.

Actually" _______ is the new black" is a common reference to a new trend taking over as the "in" thing.
