Happy Holidays, Huffpost New Yorkers. Now enough internetting -- go buy some presents.

We understand that with such a big town it's hard to know where to begin. Is it tacky to go to the holiday markets and bang out all your obligations there? Candles and sock puppets and leather-bound notebooks? We can't say. Or is online shopping really as heartfelt as having to slog and stumble through crowds at actual New York stores? Hard to answer. What if you and your brother-in-law buy each other the exact same vintage tie-pin from the Brooklyn Flea? That'd be ok.

If you're overwhelmed, don't worry -- we are too. So here are some ideas and good places to start:

Buying the right object for someone is tricky, and when you fail all you're doing is plaguing someone with an object of guilt. They will look at it crammed in a closet and feel bad for not loving it enough to put on their mantle. But you solve this problem by buying someone a class. Classes are lightweight, ephemeral but could potentially last a lifetime, if the person has good learning techniques.

A great place to start is the Astor Center. They have solid cooking classes on technique, pairing food with the right cocktail, learning about a regional food (A Taste Of Greece) and more. Classes are generally $129.
