Al Jazeera Adds Chicago Bureau, New Correspondents

Al Jazeera Expansion Continues

Al Jazeera English is expanding its U.S operations with a new bureau in Chicago, and the addition of three new correspondents.

The network, which launched a New York City operation in August, announced the expansion on Monday. John Hendren comes to the Chicago bureau, which is slated to open next month, from his previous post as White House correspondent at ABC.

The network has said that it is ramping up its U.S. coverage for the election year. Andy Gallacher is also joining the network's Miami bureau, which opened this fall, from the BBC. Alan Fisher joins the Washington bureau as senior correspondent from his previous post in London.

The growth of Al Jazeera English was propelled by its coverage of Arab Spring earlier this year. The network already has bureaus in New York and Los Angeles. The expansion brings the number of U.S. bureaus to five, with over 150 staff.

AJE just became available to viewers in Chicago in early November.
